They are. I'm pleasently surprised. Never expected dell to be a strong competitor on business notebooks. Whos tried them?

May I ask, which ones have you tried?
And by "decent" what do you mean?

Personally I prefer Dell corporate notebooks to those provided by HP. Not really ever used anything other than those two in corporate environments (well not in recent years anyway).

I've used my mother's Latitude E6400 quite extensively, and it's a nice machine. Sturdy enough to rival the ThinkPads.

Dell's Business segment and XPS are top notch (or near top notch)....

somewhat well designed with a solid warranty/customer service to back it...

too bad about their home division

The Latitudes are very nice looking :D
And, awesome Customer Support to go along with it!

You can get some deals in the configs right now! (I was playing around with the 33% & 28% off configs)

    Cin ;) :)

I agree with OP...I've had several "consumer" line laptops of various brands but the one in my sig beats them all on all fronts.

When "decent" is said, does it mean as in build quality? reliability? durability? hardware components? stability? software? lack of bloatware? combination of the before-mentioned?

The word decent does also say that there are better laptops (im guessing overall...)

Is it possible we know what you are comparing the "business" (vostro? latitude? precision?) to (thinkpad? elitebook? consumer-oriented?)?

    Thanks!

i meant that dell makes good quality laptops worthy of competing with other business notebooks, yes like thinkpads, toughbooks, elitebook etc. I myself personally will want to consider getting a dell laptop at least once (i.e. lattitude or precision line)

Yes, the corporate laptops/desktops and their XPS desktops are top notch. The XPS 7xx series are basically a revamped workstation PC, but marketed for gamers with some consumer grade products (e.g. cpu). The internal setup in a xps7xx is basically almost the same as what youd find in a dell precision workstation desktop
