Compared to XPS and Latitude, The Vostro 1310 seems to be getting very little love, so i was wondering if anyone else other than myself is getting this particular make, and if so, when did you place your order and what is the estimated shipping date? Also, if you have your laptop already, are there any issues you have encountered when using it?

I was gonna make a thread about a problem I encountered with the 1310 series, but I guess I'll post it here:

I bought this a week a go and received it yesterday. I'm very happy with the build and everything, it's small and light, and comes with a slot loading drive (although the noise it generates is pretty loud). But there's one problem I just can't bring myself over...

The clicking noise of the harddrive. I googled it and found out that it's a common problem. However, mine seems a bit different. The Vostro 1310 appears to have its harddrive located right beside the slot loading drive, every time the HD clicks, the DVD drive seems to click along with it. The interval is fairly frequent (1 click every 2-3 seconds) and it really gets on my nerves. I'd appreciate if owners of this series could shed lights on this problem. I might end up sending the laptop back to Dell for repair...

I bought mine when Dell Canada first offered it for a price starting at $450. It took almost a full month to receive it but I did order it with nearly all the options so I'm sure that delayed delivery a bit.

I very pleased with it overall. The fit and finish quality is very good. Two minor problems though. I get the BIOS message "No TPM or TPM has problem". Don't know if that's a real problem or not. Also one of the 4 USB ports doesn't work - it the top port on the two stacked ports that many have reported has a manufacturing defect that makes it very difficult to insert a cable and won't work for long once you do. Also it seems to require a bit of trick to get the card reader to see any card - I had to turn the machine off/on with a card inserted in order for it to start working and it's been fine ever since.

Likely these are examples of minor early manufacturing problems.

I got mine 3 weeks or so ago, shipped pretty fast. The problem? excessive fan noise. The cpu runs relatively warm (heats up to 55c within an hour of light browsing and music, while the laptop remains relatively cool), at which point the fan kicks-in in high gear, cools it down to 50, and rinse-wash-repeat every 3 minutes. quite a nuisance. I know the fan has a intermediate setting but i never noticed it running on it. The issue has been brought up by some people before, whereas to me a dell tech said "c'est la vie"

otherwise, very worthy notebook. A bit bulky for a 13", not the strongest speaker ever, and the viewing angle is questionable, but otherwise terrific battery life and price, without question, which i think more than compensates for natural sacrifices. That said, if the fan problem is in fact inherit in the design (i'd love for someone to report contradictory experiences) i'll be returning it before my 30 day window runs out.

although i haven't recieved mine yet, i wouldn't doubt your claims. smaller laptops with regular voltage processors = lots of heat or lots of fan. there are a few things you can do, the most notable of which, is undervolting. i think there are a few guides on this website that thoroughly cover the topic, so i wont go through the effort here.
undervolting = extend battery life, reduce power consumption, reduce heat, which in turn reduces the fan use.

you can also look into underclocking and fan control programs

also, if you're living in an area that is hot right now, it is unavoidable to have the fan running often.
