Yeah, i try to avoid that still, any mishandling will cause a scratch on the LCD or bend/break the clip of the bezel. I only open it when i need to replace the LCD or antenna.

What part number should I look for in regard with my M6800 screen replacement? As I said, the whole purpose here is to move from HD to FHD, but also I would like to have better image quality, if possible (IPS screen - does it exist for M6800?).
I've been trying to find some offers, but all are listed in regard to pin count and I didn't count the pins on my LVDS connector - how many pins does it have?
Also, everywhere where I found some, it was matte. I was reading that glossy ones provide better colors (at the expense of annoying reflections), but I think I would go for glossy, if available. - Still, it would make my life easier if I knew what part number should I look for.

    Many thanks!

IPS for M6800 existed for only a short while when released and soon no more available because of some hardware problems, I do not know what is it. Only very few people having that.

Because of the odd fitting way of M6x00 LCD, we can't replace it with common fitting type LCD, otherwise it is possible to use just any IPS FHD screen as long as the pin number is correct. You may try it if you are good at drilling holes and modding the case.

Humm, now you started some ideas in my head... problem is that I'm not sure what screen types should I look for... I may be tempted to try something. Could you give some suggestions for a good display that doesn't come too expensive? Should I choose this path, I promise to document everything and share my experience with you guys.

Hmm, I am not good at this, as far as i know, LVDS is replaced by eDP standard nowadays. I am not sure if LCD for eDP will work with LVDS even if pin number is correct, logic suggests it won't.
eDP for M6800 is only 30pins, that is why it cannot go beyond 1080p. 1440p & 1920p screen requires >40pins (for eDP).

I was using M6700 (LVDS) before. I just assembled M6800 from scratch 2 months ago, so I still remember the LCD pins kind of thing and spec. It is eDP on 1080p, because Pascal card doesn't support LVDS there is no display at all (well with eDP it still refused to boot into windows anyway on M6x00). That laptop is thrown aside and I am forced to buy a 7720 to be able to install and use the Pascal card. I care less about the LCD quality because I use it with lid closed 95% of the time. I care more on IPS external monitor. That is why I have no interest to do research of IPS for laptop, you need someone who have real determination of "laptop IPS screen" to help.

My next research is to get the Alienware 1440p GSync LCD to replace my current 7720 4k IPS screen. I am broke at the moment after spending future money on buying an unused M6800 and even the unnecessary 7720 just to accommodate the P5000 i bought that failed to install on M6700 and M6800.

I think I will stick to compatible displays this time, no experimentation... as you very well pointed it out, @iieeann , some technologies here are a bit obsolete and don't keep up with new cards, so I see it pointless to complicate my life.
I found some rather affordable offers for screens, both matte and glossy. I am a bit tempted for glossy, due to better colors, but I would like to know if someone here has glossy display on any Precision Mxx00 machine and how does it look. Is it worth the transition, or I should better stay to matter as it's always on the safe side?

Mine has a glossy screen in it, unfortunately I will say. The colors do look great, however the glossy coating reflects EVERYTHING. I would much rather give up a bit of color quality for the anti-glare matte.

I insist on Matte because the reflection will just spoil the thing. Unless you are using external monitor and able to adjust the surrounding lighting to avoid the reflection.

I've seen matte foils for screens. Quite affordable. Anyone used such foils on their glossy screens? Do they look okay?
I was thinking that a glossy screen can be returned to "matte" quite easy using a foil, if is needed...but at the same time, the glossy option is there and one can revert to it, if that's proven as a better personal choice.

The only problem here would be if the foil has visibly worse result than a native matte screen ... which could be only confirmed by someone who used such foil. In that case, then I'd rather go for matte from start.
