I don't know of a way to turn it back on, but it was silly, working against you. It actually darkened the screen for very dark images.

 

Lol yes but actually it was kind of good I mean YouTube was fine in dark mode but pictures were...

 

help tried to update to newer 441.87 and i can't...
I can install the old driver from December normally, but i tried used the normal steps, disable driver signature on boot and DDU but can't update... Have they patched it to no install newers drivers?

 

Hm that's weird, maybe a win10 auto-update thing? I'm still on the 441.66 win7 driver, works fine but a bit buggy. I lose NCP functionality after a few weeks. Maybe just skip the new one and wait till the next one comes out. I don't plan on updating but every 3 months or so.

I have to hide auto update because after I installed the current 441.66,t when laptop rebooted, it was updating to the 354

 

So I finally got to setting up my machine, Ubuntu 18.04 with a Win10 VM for work to start with. 4k monitor hanging off of the Displayport which looked glorious. Had a full day of everything running fine. Then late afternoon I noticed my battery light flashing. I've done the usual in terms of reseating it and checking battery health which wasn't great. But I figured I could live with it until I can find a decent replacement.

Then this morning I powered on my machine and no K5000M. Tried forcing it on via the BIOS and via the Nvidia Control Panel in Ubuntu. Nothing. Desktop displayed on the laptop LCD only. No K5000M detected.

So I've stripped the machine and ordered some cleaning solution to remove the old thermal compound on the GPU and CPU plus some AS5 which I've used on previous machines and consoles and always found it to be high quality paste.

My query is would you expect any correlation between a duff battery and the dGPU? The battery and PSU are both genuine Dell. And I've tried booting up without the battery but still no dGPU.

To be clear, there is a "status" page in the BIOS setup which just has some text that shows the system configuration. On this page, does it show that the K5000M is installed? (If not, I am worried that your card has gone bad somehow. You could try reseating it while you are doing the repaste.)

 

Foolishly I didn't think to check that until after I'd stripped it

The bits I've ordered will be delivered this evening [GMT] so once I've got the new paste on and the card back in I'll be sure to check the BIOS.

lspci on Ubuntu didn't show the card at all and it would irrespective of any drivers. So I suspect the card wasn't being detected by the OS for some reason, or it wasn't present for the machine to detect which does ring alarm bells.

The machine hadn't even been moved overnight so it's not liked I'd dropped it and it could have become loose. Plus it was securely screwed down.

The battery is the only thing that's had an issue. Prior to this morning everything else was working absolutely fine. So it's odd which is why I wondered if there's a relationship between the two for some reason.

Hello everyone. I recently scored a deal with m6700, thinking it may have RGB panel, but not sure what I will end up getting.

From the service tag, it seems the panel is:

JCXH5 : Module,Liquid Crystal Display, 17.3FHD,RGBLE,AG,M6700





It doesn't state IPS at all in the description. But it says, it has Full HD, RGB LED. Did dell offer m6700 with RGB 1080p without IPS? Please help

 

I believe that RGBLED is the IPS panel and WLED is the TN panel.
