I didn't realize that was possible. Did you require therapy? :p

Never seen any flickering. If you can send me some specifics on when it happens, I will try to reproduce it here.

Actually it sound more like a software compatibility issue rather than solely a hardware one. Still, there are just too many variable to make a precise diagnosis at this point; and without more detailed information, it's virtually impossible to even make a good guess.

A video of the event would be the most telling, but I'd check the software setting to see if there is any mismatch as well. Knowing the two of these--as well as the exact conditions under which it occurs--would be most revealing.

Just got a new M6700 w/128 ssd and K3000M graphics.

    1. Is there any obvious bloat that I should remove?
    2. I deleted PremierColor already (is it necessary, I only have the WLED?)
    3. I switch the scaling from the default 120% for text to 100% to get a bit more screen space. It seems like some text is even small than it should be and poorly rendered. Is there a fix? The windows login page still seems to be scaled at at least 125%.
    4. Power efficient antivirus, I'm looking for a low cost/free small footprint antivirus. Currently running Microsoft Security Essentials but wonder if I should consider anything else?

    Thanks.

I use battery bar pro to monitor the systems power consumption (it will show you the power draw in watts). Has anybody been able to get the M6700 to consistently idle under 10-11 watts. Mine was in the 9's a lot until I used it for a day, now it wants to stay up around 13-15 watts. Under CPU load it'll shoot up into the high 40watt range without the GPU kicking in.

PremierColor? Funny idea of bloat? Anyway, you definitely need some kind of color calibration tool.
Absolutely, I think you're pitching pennies here when you don't really have to. With today's efficient and powerful CPUs why is this even still an issue?

In addition, antivirus programs are "smart" and won't run when the system is active. Not to mention you can tweak it further to your specific use. I see no issue here either. Anyway, congrats on your new system.

Question for you all in the know.
I'm looking to get a M6700 here shortly.

I'm primarily going to be doing photo editing (Lightroom, Photoshop), and some limited video editing. I was looking at the getting the 6700 with the IPS display or splurging on the Covet.

Will the gorilla glass have any more or less glare than the standard IPS display???

I was looking at the K3000 for graphics, maybe the K4000. I have heard that Photoshop is taking better advantage of the Quadro. Is there a compelling reason to move up to the K4000?

Anyone out there doing photo/video editing on their M6700?

    Thanks for the help.

More glare. The standard IPS display doesn't have a glossy finish and has very little glare. Adding glass in front of it will introduce glare.

    Windows 8 Optimus update

I had some time this afternoon so I decided to try and get Optimus to work on Windows 8.

I turned on Optimus in the BIOS. I booted up and installed the latest Windows 8 graphics drivers from Intel (9.17.10.2792 --- the web site says they are for the release preview). Then I installed the latest NVIDIA Windows 8 notebook drivers (306.23). Then, a reboot.

Everything seems stable. It seems that apps are running on the NVIDIA card without issue. Going to run it for a few days but I think it's working fine so far.
