Am having issues installing/upgrading and uninstalling my Intel Ultimate 6300 AGN wifi adapter drivers. When I run the Intel or the DELL specific upgrade software, and when I try to uninstall the old drivers, I get the same error:

"The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable.

Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'Intel PROSet Wireless.msi in the box below."

And then there is a path to the missing .msi/dir: C:\Windows\Installer\_{ECE5B218-A086-4E18-A362-D11181681457}\

Is there any chance I can get someone to zip up their C:\Windows\Installer\_{ECE5B218-A086-4E18-A362-D11181681457}\ folder and send it to me so I can uninstall the old drivers?

M6700 Covet, Win 7 Pro, Intel Centrino Ultimate N-6300 AGN wifi card.

    Error screenshot attached.

    Thanks all,
    Mike

Have you tried the installer directly from Intel. I have a 6300, but it's not a Dell part, so the Dell installer will not work (different error message though). Also, have you checked whether the adapter is disabled via either the device manager or the hardware switch on the side of the laptop, I highly doubt it's that, but I've had all kinds of adventures with hardware switches in the past, especially since I use Ethernet when I'm at my desk.

Yeah, I tried the Intel uninstaller too, same error. I am missing that folder and that's what's messing me up.
The adapter is enabled and working (with generic Windows drivers) but I want to use the latest Intel drivers.

When I boot/reboot my laptop it takes several minutes for the wifi driver to load, so I know there is something goofy going on.

Have you tried uninstalling "Intel® PROSet/Wireless WiFi Software" from the "Programs and Features" control panel? Does it pop up the same box? I suspect if you could get that uninstalled, you would be able to proceed with the install/upgrade of newer drivers without issue.

(That said, I had a number of annoyances with the Intel WiFi card which is why my M6700 no longer has one.)

Another solution would be to unpack the installer for the drivers, put it somewhere on the drive and point the wireless adapter to it through the device manager. I've done that in the past to avoid installing bloatware alongside drivers.

Speaking of which, I can't see a C:\Windows\Installer\_{ECE5B218-A086-4E18-A362-D11181681457}\ file on my computer at all and yes, I did make hidden folders visible.

Something else you could try is uninstalling the device completely through device manager then giving the driver installer a go. I had to do that only one time, but it fixed my driver install problem, it wasn't for a wireless adapter though.

    Hi xPat,

I'm planning to buy 1 or 2 of these too (but didn't pull the trigger yet because of the unlcear situation about 10bit). I've got a similar config (but a K5000M instead).
I read that this display doesn't show 10bit colors (but it is advertised as 10bit) (see http://www.slashcam.de/artikel/Ausp...-mit-Nvidia-Quadro-K5200-und-LG-31MU97-B.html).
I also read that this monitor offers some resolutions only in 50Hz instead of 60 or 24 (or vice versa).

    Cheers,
    Alex

BTW: I dropped DELL nVidia drivers (+ PremierColor) and went to newest original drivers (348.07) without any problems...

BTW2: Just checked 3 displays (each 2.5k) via DP. Seems the 3rd DP port (on the right side) is really disabled when docked. (K5000M,Win7, 348.07)

Good to see you here again. Short answer is I do NOT recommend these LG monitors at this time. Based on reviews I read, I thought I was buying the "Cadillac of 4K monitors" - the best of the best - and to be sure, I was paying thru the nose for it. (well over $3k for 2 monitors after shipping and taxes). In hindisgnt I paid for mediocrity.

First and foremost, these monitors only support 4096 x 2160 at 24Hz. At 3840 x 2160, you only get 30Hz. You have to go all the way down to 1920 x 1080 in order to get 60Hz res!

Next, the LG monitors have a single "Joystick" control that pokes DOWN from under the center of each monitor: Translation: These silly things are UNSUITABLE for multi-monitor applications because even though the monitors feature beautifully thin bezels, you can't put the damn things next to one another and still be able to turn the monitor on and off! You'd need to leave about 2" space between vertically stacked monitors to leave room to access the joystick.

Finally, I can't get even one of them working with my m6700, but that may be a Dell problem. I hooked the LG up to the 3rd DP out (on the laptop chasis) per advice a few posts back. That allows me to run the LG and one other Dell monitor. But when I try to "Extend desktop" onto a 3rd connected monitor, "Screen Resolution" says "Unable to save display settings" and won't allow it. That problem MAY be solvable with more experimentation, but since I already ordered a couple of USB to 4K DP adapters, I figure I'll try to make that work first and fall back to trying to wrestle with Screen Resolution not liking the LG only if I can't make it work with the USB adapters.

In summary, the LG 31MU97-B is an absolutely BEAUTIFUL monitor if you only want/need one of them and can live with 24Hz. But for multi-monitor applications, the placement of the joystick alone is a deal-killer.

My conclusion is that the >30" 4K market just "isn't there yet". Different people want 4K for different reasons. For the photographic content development guys who care mostly about color accuracy and high display resolution, there are quite a few 4K and even a few 5K monitors on the market in the 24" to 28" size range. But for a stock market guy like me, it's all about having more space for more live stock charts. Square inches are just as important as pixels, and for my application there's really no benefit to 4K resolution unless it's on a >30" panel where you get more square inches too. And that market seems only to have "problem child" monitors. The Dell UP3214Q has had some serious firmware issues and experiences major problems waking up from sleep mode. This LG model has the problems described above. Most of the 4K/5K monitors on the market can only support their maximum resolutions at refresh rates way below 60Hz. What I really want is a half-dozen 36" 5120 x 2880 (5K) 60hz monitors and a single GPU to run all 6 of them. It looks like that's still a few years off.

Please clarify what driver you are running v348.07 of. I checked and my NVidia driver (for my K3000M) shows v9.18.13.4807, released 4/26/15. Am I missing something? I see the last few digits are the same so I assume we're talking about the same driver, but it's curious that I get a different format on the version number than you apparently do...

Also, does anyone know what's going on when "Screen Resolution" first allows a legitimate configuration change, but then balks "Unable to save display settings" as soon as you try to APPLY or OK the dialog box? I ran into this once before a little over a year ago, and the solution was to update all the drivers on the system to latest revs and suddenly it worked. I'd try that, but I think I already have latest rev on the relevant drivers...

    Hey Guys

Looking at getting a 870M or a 970M for my 6700 would these cards work ok with bios flash?

I have a M6100 AMD card in there atm.
