    Hi all,

    maybe somebody can help me:
My config is K5000M with the IPS display and Win7 64bit.
I am using PremierColor 2.0 (latest version from DELL for M6700).
First problem: when I use the "Check for updates" button in PremierColor I get redirected to portrait.com BUT this version won't install ("Not supported") -> where do I get the latest version that supports M6700 with IPS?
Second: all nVidia driver versions after 320.92 (327.23 and 331.65) make PremierColor stop working (I can chose a profile but it is always "Full").

    All help appreciated...

    TNX in advance,
    Alex

Drivers directly from NVIDIA have been known to not play nice with Premier Color. Have you tried the latest ones from Dell? (326.80)

No, not yet. Actually, I didn't use DELL graphics drivers since my Quadro2Go. They always seemed massively outdated (at least for my Quadro 3500M and 3800M). That's why I didn't take a look at the DELL drivers.
So, thanks for the advice-> I will try it this weekend.

    Cheers,
    Alex

PS: I can only see 311.44 in the download section for M6700/Win7x64...

Fed up with the Secure Boot warning on the desktop following my recent Windows 8.1 upgrade I contacted Dell to see if I could get my system (K3000M and IPS screen without Optimus) to work with secure boot and legacy ROM support disabled, as I have also suffered the invisible graphics for the past year and had to run with legacy support and no secure boot. As a side issue, unrelated to secure boot and legacy support, I was also suffering a boot delay of a couple of minutes or more if I left an empty Compact Flash Expresscard reader in the machine. The machine is a refurb, bought almost a year ago (November 2012) by me and first shipped to another customer in October 2012, just before Windows 8 hit retail. I understood that the machine should be fully Windows 8(.1) compatible, so it was a disappointment to experience these problems, but until Win 8.1 gave me a daily reminder of the problem I lived with it.

Dell's claims for compatibility are available here....

so I did expect a solution and not to be fobbed off.

Dell's initial proposal was to replace the motherboard and an engineer visited the following day to do just that. Unfortunately it didn't resolve the problem with legacy support and secure boot. However, the engineer was very diligent and determined that a new K3000M GFX card would be the solution, so the part was ordered and today it was fitted. I am pleased to say that my machine is now running correctly with secure boot enabled. I ran GPU-Z before and after the replacement and it is interesting to note the BIOS numbers for the two cards. It seems like a video BIOS update is the solution, just has been discovered with the K5000M, but a BIOS update was not made available, thus requiring a full replacement of the K3000M. Here is the GPU-Z output from the new card on the left and the original card on the right.

So, there is a solution and, for systems within warranty at least, it seems Dell should and will provide it. Here is the part number for the replacement K300M GFX card, showing "Windows 8 support"....

As to the other matter with my Expresscard slot, the problem is not 100% cured, but the boot delay is much reduced and I suspect the new motherboard might have had a part to play there.

    @tdodd

Glad you got it sorted. Can you post a dump of the new BIOS image for the K3000M? (You can dump it with GPU-Z, the little icon next to the BIOS version number.) That way anyone else who has the K3000M can update the BIOS without having to replace the card...

I tried to upload a dump to the techpowerup online database, but it was identified as a duplicate, despite nothing else equivalent or even similar being listed in my own search for nVidia/Dell/Quadro K3000M. The only other K3000M BIOS is for HP and the revision number is different, as is the dump file size, so I've no idea what the site is playing at. Anyway, I dumped the ROM to a file and have uploaded it to my Dropbox.

    https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/29328014/GK104.rom

I've never dumped a video BIOS before, neither have I flashed one, so I have no idea what it should look like. Anyone is free to grab a copy from Dropbox. Use is entirely at your own risk. I uploaded the file in good faith, but I can make no promises regarding the contents.

Thanks. It's nearly identical to the BIOS I have for the K5000M so I think it should be good. (Of course, I have no way to test it.) I'll keep the file around.

It says Windows 8.1 but I think it would work with Windows 7 (NVIDIA 325+ drivers are good for Windows 7, 8, and 8.1). Anyway, only one way to find out, up to you. :p

    Hi everybody,

The last time something went wrong with my computer, you helped me greatly! Sadly I am facing another problem.

Today I found out my SD card reader isn’t working anymore.

I have tried reinstalling the driver to no avail. Changing power plan also did not help. I also reset the bios and removed the battery for a while. I also uninstalled the driver in device manager. (it gave a code 45). It has not reappeared since.

Does anybody now what might be going on?

EDIT: I just added the sd card trough legacy devices and it has a code 10

Installing the SD card reader as a legacy device won't work, it won't be able to figure out where you're trying to hook it up. It should be plug-and-play and show in the device manager automatically. It shows up attached to the PCI Express bus right next to the firewire controller.

    sd-card.png

Need to check to see if it's some sort of OS/configuration issue, or if there's an actual problem with the SD card reader.

I'd suggest booting a Linux live CD, and once you're at the desktop, stick an SD card in and see if it mounts. If it does, you have a problem in Windows. If it doesn't, you have a problem with the SD card reader itself and you should call Dell support.
