Its the warranty that's important since all computers are by default the most complex of our machines an have a large potential to fail.

According to Consumer Reports, refurbished electronics are not typically worth it since the markdown is small. Therefore, only you can decide if the deal is too good to pass up.

Ok, I killed the hibernation file using your instructions. We'll see how that goes.

It failed to hibernate on several occasions, but it hadn't happened for quite a while after I'd fixed the wireless stuff. Since having the same blue screen when trying to shut down, rather than hibernate, I am becoming convinced that it wasn't that it came back from hibernation, but that it failed to hibernate in the first place. I never verified that hibernation had been completed before I stuck it in the bag, because I was in a hurry.

I can't really afford a brand new workstation straight from Dell, so of the two Dell Precisions I've bought, one was from ebay fresh from the outlet, the other was also from ebay, but from some company in Europe (don't think it got used at all as it looked brand new). Zero issues with both. So, I'd say go for it if you get warranty with it (not that I needed it).

I would agree with Krane after have purchased two refurbished laptops and had to return both due to unresolvable issues.

What European firm ? i could not find this laptop at all in EU (refurbished).... im getting it from the US through a a friend thats working there and i will ask him to test it with cinebench to see if it works well both in cpu and gpu , + the firm that i`m getting it from said that the laptop is like new , because the owner changed his mind in the 21 day period and the internals are like new . I really want to get this one , having the k4000m and a 2.8 ghz i7 CPU . Though i hope im as lucky as you because i wont be having a warranty , i mean it does come with a 3 year warranty but in US not EU .

BTW , hows the cooling on the laptop ? i will be rendering with it and allot of CAD and 3ds MAX on it , i men it cand be worse than a 15`` laptop with 1 fan cooling a i7 and a gt 555m ( this is what im working with an wanted to upgrade) .

And does anyone know some other way that he could test the laptop to see if it works good ? besides a benchmark like cinebench .

And by urezolvable issues what do you mean ? and did you spot them right on or did it take some time for them to surface ?

I too am considering a refurbished M6700 for 3D modelling/animation and RAW video editing.

Does anyone have any experience with PCGlobal?

These would be shipped from the US to Australia, warranty from the sound of it is transferable.

I'll be getting a bank loan to pay for one of these systems, I'd have it paid off in a month.

The issue is, to get one of these new with the k5000m, IPS (minimum specs I require, I'm happy to upgrade the RAM, HDD/SSD, CPU) it's going to cost close to AUD $7000 here in Australia new whereas I can get what I'm wanting here for ~$3000 - 3500 refurbished.

I purchased mine from them. Communication was quite quick and resolution of the one issue I had(the backlit keyboard I asked them to upgrade arrived damaged; they sent me a new one immediately) was resolved very quickly. Haven't had any problems with the machine other than somewhat high CPU temps on load; I resolved that by repasting myself. It sounds like you can get a K5000M machine for a pretty good discount from what you'd find in your area; I'd say go for it.

I think the warranty can be transferred via a Dell page. I don't have the receipt from mine handy to fill in the previous owner data to try to transfer the warranty.

But, yeah, those 'refurbished' ones are mostly laptops which were returned during the 30-day period so they cannot be sold as new anymore and they are inspected for any damage and then sold on Dell Outlet where they are grabbed by resellers and resold on eBay and alike. I also planned to import it from US like my M6400, but then I ran into this one on german eBay and the price was kinda low so I went for it (3820qm, K4000M, RGB LED), otherwise I'd wait for the prices to drop a bit in US (as you have to pay shipping + import tax). It was sold by a private person, but I believe it belonged to some company.

Speaking of which, I think Dell has outlet stores in UK so you might find those resold on UK eBay perhaps or even check the main page here:
