Maybe? On the other hand, they could make an 18" laptop? Do you see where I'm going with this?

Just get a refund and be done with it. You don't want to reward incompetence.

    Hello, Guys!
Do we have alternatives to M6700/M6600 ? My main criteria is reliability and good display (preferably IPS panel). Would buy 15 inch model (M4700) if they can configure it with IPS matrix, but don't see it in dell's configurator. Thought about buying macbook with retina, but i need windows and don't want to run in in paralles or in bootcamp.

To get the M4700 with IPS, you have to add a fingerprint reader. (They're supposed to be fixing this soon.) However, the M4700 IPS panel seems to have corner tint issues. See the M4700 owner's thread.

If you were going to be satisfied with a MacBook, you don't even need to get the IPS screen. :p (The "regular" FHD screen on the Precision has a better color gamut than the retina MacBook display.)

Aaron44126 thank you for your answer! I added fingerprint reader, but configurator still not showing IPS panel as an option. I also chatted with dell customer support and they confirmed that IPS panes is not more an option for this pc (they called tech support to double check that)

Wow, read a lot about both laptops, but never heard something like this. Is it true, that TN could be better than IPS?
I'm going to buy laptop mainly for software development and heard, that IPS less affecting eyes as colors are closes to natural, fonts are sharper etc. I'm i correct ?

I don't know if the FHD panel in the M4700/M6700 is actually "better" than the IPS panel in the retina MacBook Pro. There's a number of criteria that you can measure this on. However, the FHD panels in the current Precisions have a 72% color gamut which is higher than the retina MacBook Pro's display. There may be other things that the MacBook panel is better at though (i.e. viewing angle, contrast ratio, and obviously pixel density).

I have the FHD panel in my Precision. I think it is fantastic. Color is pretty good (quite excellent for a laptop panel IMO) and brightness is good. Viewing angle is nothing to complain about, but not fantastic like what you would get with an IPS panel. It is not glossy, major selling point for me over the MBP. I'm not a graphics guy, so you might have different criteria than me. Just saying, maybe don't discount the FHD panel so quickly.

This is incorrect, and I can tell you this since I am typing from a M4700 with a RGB-LED backlit LCD right now. What you precisely need to add is: "Smartcard reader for RGB Base" on the online configurator. That will change the screen automatically for you to the IPS model.

That option isn't there (at least on the US site). My guess is they pulled the IPS screens as an option due to the tinting problems that have been showing up.

I just checked, and you're right. Bizarre - it's still on the UK side. If you want the details to give to a sales rep, it's "Smartcard Reader Base for RGB LCD Product code: 513823 SKU: [212-10629]" and "39.6cm (15.6") UltraSharp™ FHD(1920x1080) PremierColor IPS RGB Anti-Glare LED-backlit Premium Panel Product Code: 513828 SKU: [230-12574]"

Completely confused what to choose?! Laptop is needed primary for software development (programming). Questions are following:
    1) What memory to choose? Is it worse buying 18xx Mhz memory instead of 1600Mhz
    2) Is backlit keyboard option solid? I saw somewhere on youtube that M6600 backlit keyboard had some defects.
    3) Is it worse buying model with IPS panel ?! What disadvantages except higher price and less working time on battery ?
    4) What else i should take into account buying this machine ?
