    Update on Covet lead time:

I called Dell on the 9th, and left a message. I received a call back stating that my parts shortage had been resolved and my system is being built. Imagine my surprise, this morning, when I check the order status on their website and read the following:

"Due to unforeseen circumstance, we have experienced another delay with your order number 411449107. Our new Estimated Delivery Date will be on or before 7/17/2013 (updated). Due to this additional delay, the Federal Trade Commission requires we receive your consent to continue with this order else we will be forced to cancel the order automatically. "

I called my rep (not sales, but the other one), and left her a message asking her to call me ASAP. I want to understand what this delay is. I'm REALLY getting irritated. If I don't hear from her by 10, I'll be posting on the unresolved issues page on Dell's website.

I wouldn't get too worked up over it. The exact same thing happened to me. I was promised a date about 13 days after my order; they contacted me and said it would later, by about 6 days, and also sent me the same notification that I had to agree to the delay and that I still wanted to complete the order, or they would -- by law -- have to cancel from their end. It's just a legal requirement; Dell isn't jerking you around. My computer finally arrived a mere eleven days after it was originally promised on my order, so I'm sure they will get you yours soon enough.

That's the thing, though. How long have they been selling the M6700 Covet? Something close to a year, I think. You'd think that by now, they would have worked out their safety stock issues so that this didn't consistently, repeatedly happen over and over again. I do realize that it is a difficult thing to balance stock, but they've been building computers for a long time. They have enough sales history to make predictions about how many they will sell in a period, and they certainly should have enough experience to be able to figure out that maybe they should pad their estimated delivery dates a bit. I seriously would much rather be given a 4- to 6-week lead time at the outset, than to have the date pushed out.

Well, I've seen folks get their machines in *less* time than promised -- if you read through this thread I believe you will see that. So, for Dell they try to estimate the best they can. Sometimes they eat the bear; sometimes the bear eats them. How many days are they behind on yours? 5 to 10? Buck up. Think if there were no Covets at all!!

System runs cooler, has improved battery life and is super quiet - it's awesome with two SSD's.

You might want to try enabling "Turn Off Write-Cache Buffer Flushing" (Enable in the device manager) if you have the Samsung as the boot or data drive. Not sure if you should do that for the Liteon. Also - Samsung has magician software 4.1 (at the bottom Support tab/Downloads tab)
but it may not work properly if the Dell/Liteon OEM is present.

Its just how the business is done. Computers are an item you don't want sitting around unsold and growing old.
I don't know about battery life but mine certainly is quiet. My only regret is not being able to afford a data storage SSD to take better advantage of the second drives SATA 6 capability.

When my new C drive arrives, I may move the current one to the second bay. Yes, I know its only 256GB (and not even all that), but it should suffice while I save for the 1TB Crucal.

I agree which is why I stayed tenacious and Dell got it fixed right. They handed the issue over to Sales\Executive Escalations and that team took the time to research and respond at the level of support one would expect for this level of laptop. The LCD screen noise was an issue with the first two machines but the replacement sent from the Escalations team was not suffering from the issue. Rockin' box and fully resolved. Thanks for keeping me on it.

Well, it pays to be the squeaky wheel. I got notification that it has shipped, and it should be here tomorrow. I'm going to call and thank the lady I talked to.

Thank goodness its on its way, because I'm not sure how long this current computer will hold out. It's being held together with good wishes, at this point.

Samsung claims 50 Mins. gain but I don't know what that is compared with, probably more like 20 Mins. swapping out a single HDD on machines' like ours. HDD's aren't very power efficient but are very inexpensive!
Yeah, I was a die hard never giving up my HDD mentality. Now I'll never go back.

You could always try this, leaving the smaller drive as the primary while picking up space by mounting the larger secondary:
