Well to be honest, in this category its less about performance and more about consistency and reliability. These are what makes a workstation valuable. And of course, performance too.

I should be upgrading to the Microns C drive and mSATA soon. I only have 32GB free on my 256 but its still with a few second to boot as when it was near empty.

    Okay, another quick question.

I've noticed that you can't select anything other than 800x600, 1024x768, 1280x1024, and 1920x1080 as a display resolution for this system. This is causing some funky behavior in some of the programs I use regularly. I like this machine and generally consider it an awesome system, but are there any reasons as to why things like this would be locked down? I'm scratching my head here.

I have a number of choices besides these. If you're using Optimus, try turning it off in the BIOS. (I seem to remember that the Intel GPU driver has fewer resolution choices for some reason.)

    1024x768, 1280x800, 1280x1024,1366x768,1440x900,1680x1050,1920x1080

Got around to updating to the firepro unified driver and WOW!

Comparison of the first driver, A03 which is currently on Dell's site and the latest available on AMD's site for the Precision M6700

I had to multiply the ProEngineer scores by 10 for the sake of readability, so the increase looks bigger than it actually is, but an increase there is.

    Slight increase in 3DMark11 too

It broke brightness control on mine, seem that it act like other post-13.1 catalyst breaking brightness if the machine have anything pre-13.1 installed.

Just tested on mine, had A03 installed prior, brightness still works. Under Windows 7 that is, haven't tested on Windows 8 yet. Looks like it's a no go for the M6600, but at least it ungimped the performance on some CAD that A02 and A03 brought to the mix.

It probably is a mix of problem with older driver and win8.
I used previous release from amd site and they work fine.

Im not sure whats happening mate, maby its windows 7 problem. It also seems that nvidia drivers are not properly installed on your machine. My battery time with win7 was around 4 hours and 8 hours with win8, so you can try that. You do not have to have those new features of win8 just use www.startisback.com

I have watched 5 full movies in airplane mode, with 50% brightness without charging (UPTIME around 8:30MIN) and that is with normal 90whr battery.
