Yes, air comes in from the bottom and goes out the back. In the odd case that I'm using the laptop on a cushion or something, I prop up the back by sticking a book under it.

Yes, it is, but on light usage, the fans are usually completely stopped for me and you'll want to put on a hard surface for intensive stuff anyways. Given how wide it is, shouldn't be a problem when using it on your lap either.

Give me the parameter you follow and I will replicate them and inform you of the results. You need to post all your settings.

I have Adobe products, so I created a ramp in Photoshop and detect no banding, and that's with the settings at 8 bit. I get just a plain greyscale ramp!

I don't know how it would fit the M6700, but I usually advise to use the "Bräda" stand from IKEA, it's cheap and super effective in the "laptop in bed/couch" case.

i keep my laptop at 30 degrees, just placing a common plug adapter (could be anything that works for you) underneath the dock connector on the bottom of the laptop
this way my screen is higher and at eye level, so i don't have to bend my head, it's more for ergonomics, but it incidentally helps with air flow for sure, cause it's all open underneath

    about the color profiling insanity...
still waiting for an answer from the Premier Color software company..
for what i gathered, when they made the software and profiles they used a NVIDIA 8 bit card so that's why there's banding in the profiles, and unless they receive a 10 bit video card from NVIDIA they can't fix this
    BUT
any of the profiles i choose from Premier Color has wrong colors, instead they say the rgb values are correct.
I see greys as magenta using Adobe RGB profile and as cyan using sRGB, while in DCI they seem correct
Bought a iDisplayPro to calibrate these spaces hoping to get them better but got no luck, 200 euros wasted
In the end i just upgraded to Win 8 without any calibration software installed and i get 100% accurate sRGB right away, i'll just stick to that (thank you Win 8) and be happy, no tinted greys, no banding, just perfect
Too bad only that i won't be able to do printing using Adobe RGB or test DCI, as there's no easy way to swap profiles on the fly without the software
If anybody has managed to get these color spaces to work, or calibration at all, please let me know.
For what i discovered this laptop is useless for anything other than sRGB and this will only work in Win 8

    also
anybody else having random freezes that last for like 30 seconds? mine keeps freezing up every few minutes
can't understand what the problem is, i guess some driver issues

You're right. On light use, it is not a problem, but when i do an export from Lightroom, after a few minutes, the computer start to be very noisy if i let it on this tablecloth. If i put the 2 bottlecaps under the rear foots of the laptop to elevate it, it is OK.
On my Lenovo X220 (i7 inside), the air flow don't go throuh the bottom and there is not problem.
Perhaps it was not possible to get another design with the power of the M6700... Great laptop anyway !

For K4000M 400+ MHz OC you would need to get a vbios image. To get it i would recommend posting a wish into HERE to user SVL7. I do not think that OC bios exist for K4000M but i am pretty sure if you ask nicely he will modify it for you.

If you want to do simple testing without flashing anything and getting +135MHz on the core (will give you at least 20% overall performance boost) just make sure you have 3.20 nvidia drivers and nvidia inspector. In the nvidia inspector go to overclocking tab, from the top select performance level (P0) and set base clock offset to +135MHz and click apply clocks, simple as that.

I played games for several hours today with K3000M and i was surprised how well it performs with +400MHz OC on the core. Max temperature i hit was 67c under 100% load.
I was able to run far cry 3 under ULTRA settings@1080 with playable 30-40FPS. Also i tried to max out Grid 2, and got ~40fps there.

The last test was Just Cause 2 benchmark with results here:
All settings maxed out @ 1080p, with 16x AA and 16x AF

    STOCK AVERAGE FPS: 30FPS
    NO OC K3000m just cause.JPG

    +400MHz CORE : 44FPS
    OC K3000M just cause.JPG

Thats around +50% performance only with 400MHz at very safe temperatures. I do believe if i would pushed memory +400MHz and core +600MHz i would have gotten 70-80% performance gain.
Quadro cards are ment for serious 3d work, that means running under full load most of the time and they are underclocked. Its nice to see K3000M scoring now as Radeon 7950M and staying under 70c:)

Well air has to enter/exit from somewhere; and no matter where you put them someone will place the laptop where they can get blocked. Where would have put them?

The intakes could have been placed on the side or below the display, but all potential configs have their disadvantages. Given the amount of ports on the M6700, having them on the side would have required a redesign of port placement and below the display would likely have attracted dust in the speaker grill. The worse design I've seen is on the macbook pros (non retina), they take their air from the same place that it's pushed back, that is the hot air coming out gets partly recirculated inside the notebook.
