There were similar complains before, you cant get rid of it iirc if you have the IPS. Most do not notice it though.

Trying to decide between 2 laptops. They are specked the same except one has the IPS RGB while the other has the standard screen. One give me better battery life then the other but by how much and is it worth it?? For the most part I will be docked and connected to multiple monitors.

4-5 hours of battery on the one with the IPS, around double that without the IPS.

That kind of compromise on a laptop at this level is unacceptable. This regardless of the type of screen you have. I've no such noise on this laptop nor my 5 year old HDX or my 8 year old Inspiron.

Get a laptop that doesn't squeal, whine, etc. (provided its the laptop display and not the HDD) and compromise on nothing less.

Full SSD compliment so the drives are not the issue. I will keep pursuing the goal of a quiet machine (minus the occasional fan noise etc.) and will post the outcome. The first unit was visited by a local certified Dell tech who completely removed the mobo and display to replace the LCD inverter cable (not inverter - that didn't get sent) and when it went back together the track pad started failing and the high pitch noise remained. Second machine arrives and it has the same issue and I'm starting to wonder if it's a design flaw inherent in the IPS -> LCD combo.

Actually, some SSDs have been known to whine so while it's not likely the culprit, it's still a possibility.

    This silly story continue :
Dell sent 3 times a technician to change the LCD, and the computer is still not working, it is not working at all now !!!
    1. 15th of May : A technician changed the LCD. He forgot to remove the battery... After that, the LCD was working both on power supply or battery, but the backligt control was not working : alway at max brightness, even if the bargraph is at min.
    2. 17th of may : A technician changed the LCD. He forced the small connetor (20 pin, i was told it is the backlight command) and bent it, connected the battery and power supply like this !!!! So the power supply turn off in automatic short circuit protection (the blue led stay off untill you disconnect and re-connect the power supply from the wall). As the technician said he didn't see very well, i spent 20 minutes with a needle to repair all the pin of the LCD connector (they were bent...). After that, the technician re-installed this new LCD with connector OK (but forgotting to disconnect the power supply...grrr...). The computer was working, screen OK and backlinght command OK. But with a very important noise comming from the screen, and the screen started to have flickering. And after a few minutes, the LCD turn OFF... And the technician refused to put a paper on the keyboard, so the LCD bracket put some stripes around the keypad... For a 3000 euros new computer... After a long time, if i put ON the computer, i can see the Dell logo but with a pink color and a very low backlight. And after a few seconds, i can see the boot in pink but the backlight desappear gradually in a few seconds.
    3. 21st of May : same technician came to change another time the LCD. Another time, he forgot sometime to disconnect the power supply to connect the new LCD, and forgot sometime to put a paper to protect the keypad... But nothing happened, it is exactly the same thing, with the very low pink backlight of the logo, and gradualy desappear.
So i think the 2nd technician destroyed my computer with the short-circuit... Now my 3000 euros new computer is with stripes and screen not working at all.
And the best of the best is that theses techicians came with LCD written as "refurbished". Normal spare parts Dell for an expensive professional computer ?
(i took some pictures of all theses incoveniences...)
HOW DELL CAN WORK WITH SO BAD SUBCONTRACTORS ???
I CAN'T WORK FOR ONE MONTH NOW, IT IS A BIG PROBLEM FOR ME...

Does anyone know what can cause very low pink backlight, gradually desappearing ?
Who give the power supply to the LCD backlight ? The video card ?
Sorry for my bad english, but i'm very angry and don't know what can i do...

I think backlight issue usually tie with display driver, but for now, you may aswell get a exchange first.
