Great find. Anyone know if Dell is releasing a bios update? Just curious.

When I asked them about my bios version (if it was the latest at the time). Most techs said they do not know. One or two said from the numbering, they thought it was older.

A few weeks ago dell posted a airplane switch driver for Win 8.

    DELL,Airplane Mode Switch Driver,1.4.0.0

I already had the switch work with the Enhancement Pack so I have not bothered with it.

This morning I noticed that Dell released an update to the Enhancement pack and for one of the fixes, it says removed the airplane mode switch.

    Dell Feature Enhancement Pack 2.2.1

Anyone try these with Win 8 x64?

    thanks,

    Mike

As others have posted I was probably going to just wait and see what the next driver did, and give it much more attention if that one too failed. That said, to answer your questions:

Nothing has changed that I am aware of other than some Windows updates I am sure; no new peripherals. I did download multiple times, twice using the link from this forum and once going through the combo boxes to download the driver it suggested (the same). I also installed from different places, Downloads folder and desktop, both places I have installed form a ton of times. I am running Windows 7 x64.

At the moment, no telling... I think they should release an update because its possible to get yourself stuck on the old one (especially if you don't know to pull the battery).

I installed the DFEP and noticed that in the changelog. I have not installed the standalone airplane mode switch driver. The wireless switch works fine in Windows 8 (it automatically enabled airplane mode, shuts off wifi and bluetooth, "Airplane" mode toggle is shown as set in network settings, and a desktop alert appears when it changes). I don't think I even needed to install DFEP to get it to work.

    [Edit]
A little digging on the airport mode switch. I see it in device manager under "Human Interface Devices." It shows version 1.4.0.0, with a driver date of 2012-07-31. The "Events" tab shows an install date of 2012-10-25 (matching when I first installed BIOS A06) so it looks like it was picked up automatically then, either from DFEP (don't remember if I had it installed yet), or Windows Update I guess.

The new driver released in April has the same version number and build date, so it looks like they just took it out of DFEP and made it a standalone download with no other changes.

I also noticed that there was a driver and firmware update for the fingerprint reader in early April that I had missed. Installed and pending reboot...

I'm going to compile a list of benchmark results with the latest drivers if you guys are willing to participate. Specviewperf and Luxmark (complex benchmark) to be more precise. It's mostly for comparison of the quadros versus the GTX/GT cards and Radeons with current drivers for the What Notebook Should I Buy? forum since the data available on notebookcheck can be scarce for the pro GPUs and is not up to date in terms of drivers for the higher end gaming cards.

Yeah I can help if required,

K3000M with a Intel 3920XM CPU and 32GB of RAM.

What do I need to do?

Thanks, you can run this benchmark: LuxMark - LuxRender Wiki and specviewperf 11: Download GWPG Benchmarks. specviewperf11 is a rather large download at almost 1 GB though, so I'll understand if you don't want to download that. If you run those benchmarks, report your scores here, I'll take care of compiling them and making an Excel spreadsheet with them.

Downloading both now, ETA 10 mins.

I'm just converting some GoPro footage at the moment so I will wait for that to finish, reboot and run the benchmarks.

I am keen to see the difference between the GTX ranges and the Quadro as well.

I would like to see how the GTX 780m would perform in these tests.

Indeed, for luxmark, also run the complex benchmark if possible, you'll have to slect it manually, the default is on medium. If the notebookcheck socres for the 680m aren't too out of date, my firepro is equal or better than the 680m in the various specviewperf benchmarks  and the K5000m on 296 drivers runs circles around it.

I want to compare the results for Adobe Premiere and Video Exporting rendering tasks.
