thanks again. do you have a link to the faster modules? For now, I would only want to spend the money the 16GB. However, in the future I might want to go more. Any issue with mixing the faster memory with what I have? if so, I will stick with just the DDR3-1600 and total of 24GB. probably way more than I need, but I have empty slots and I figured for under $100 I would fill them .

    thanks,

    Mike

You can get 8GB 1600 modules at CL10 instead of CL11. (The CL rating is basically how many clock cycles it takes the memory to fulfill a request, lower is better, but real-world performance difference is not great.) I have four of these installed. They are also available in pairs. A few of us are using these and I haven't heard of any issues.

The CL10 modules don't cost much more than the CL11 but if you go faster the price goes up a tad.

There are also CL9 modules available but they are a little more expensive. The only ones I see are Kingston HyperX. (I don't remember hearing anyone say they use these but there might be someone in this thread who has them.)

Instead of going 1600 CL9 you might as well bump the speed up to 1866, that will make a bigger difference than decreasing the CL by 1. These 1866 modules have been reported working in the M6700 and are the fastest 8GB modules you can get now. (There are some bad ratings on the site but it looks like they're from people who's computer won't run the memory at 1866. Many machines have a 1600 max.)

Like I said before, mixing speeds will probably work but might result in all of the modules running slower than their max speed, as the BIOS will need to find the "greatest common speed" supported by all modules present and will run at that.

Thanks again . I might go with these CL10. Amazon has them and I have prime with the free shipping. Amazon does not have the CL11 in stock.

Hopefully they will play nice with the CL11 I have now.

Try switching to default vBulletin style, it works for me. Let me know if it works, if it does for you on default VB style, I'll report it to the admins.

All, posts in this thread have been very helpful. I appreciate all the help on my questions.

I have been reading the entire thread. Around post 875 there are posts on the Swappable Hard Drive. So once I remove the screws and the drive is hot swappable, can I then use different drives for different a OS? So I can have Win 7 on one and play with win 8 on the other? Does anyone have the part number for the caddy for the drive so I can get a second one?

    thanks,

    Mike

While reading the thread, I ran across a post that the video bios on the Quadro K5000M is 80.04.33.00.3

On the Covet I I just received it is 80.04.5A.00.05

I have not run into any issue, but wondering why the difference if anyone knows? Is the 5A.00.05 newer or older?

    thanks,

    Mike

I installed the premier color utility last night., This morning several times while using excel, the screen goes blank and I get a quick message detecting compatible panel. I have the Covet with IPS. I have the K5000M running the dell latest drivers version 9.18.13.745.

Anyone have an issue like this.

EDIT: I think it keeps jumping back and forth between sRBG and Full color. But it is not just when I put Excel on the screen, it keeps doing it. going blank and then back up. Near impossible to use. Also, nothing happens when I click on the premier color icon on the bottom right. I have to right click the desktop to get into it.

EDIT 2: I turned off Enable Application Color under preferences and now it stays on one color (screen does not try to switch). The task bar icon on bottom right still does not do anything.

    thanks,

    Mike

Mike, can you download GPU-Z, dump and save the BIOS to a file by clicking the button to the right of the BIOS Version line, and attach it to a reply? I can poke around to see what changes have been made.
