I get it. You want the covet?

    _______________________________________________________________________

As for my set-up, I've discovered that all the editing programs I purchased to use in the Precisions can be installed on more than one machine. Given that, I will simply download and install them from scratch and keep the machine lean and light. Nevertheless, I do have an issue from my transfer of the OS from the OEM HDD to my SSD. On launch, it says, "invalid partition!" and blinks, so I have to press F2 to proceed into the boot of W7.

Since these are my first SSDs I'm unsure on how to fix this? The the RAM install ( esp. under the keyboard) went without a hitch. I used a plastic tool (though a plastic knife could have sufficed) and the trim popped loose without complication. As well, the mSATA install went without any issues (anything go in the WWA and/or 1/2 mini slot?)

I connected a 1TB HDD for the 2nd slot, but it didn't show up which makes me uncomfortable. I haven't gone back in and checked the connections and/or the device yet since I hate working on the inside because I'm not very good at it. I'm terrified I'll forget a step and damage something.

One final thing, I heard a brief grinding noise coming from the front left, that too has me concerned. Anyway, after all this comes the calibrations. Arrgh! Not fun.

The Sound Card selection is not allowed with the Windows 8 Operating System.
The Video Card option is not available with Windows 8 Operating System. Please update one of these selections.
The LCD option is not compatible with the Windows 8 Operating System.

To Krane: "...On launch, it says, "invalid partition!" and blinks, so I have to press F2 to proceed into the boot of W7..."

Although any number of things could cause this, I suggest that you look at the "boot order" (in one of the pre-boot screens) and make sure the first device listed in the boot order is the one that contains the OS you wish your system to boot from/with when you turn on the computer.

After correctly ordering the boot order, this may well solve the "invalid partition!" blinking (error) message on launch.

I ran into the same problem 2 weeks ago. It took me 1 day to find out what the 6700 did: I cloned my system drive (a few partitions incl. recovery etc.) plugged in the new drive.. and I got this message. I hit Enter and again this message - but I didn't try to hit Enter another time(!). I continued to clone my drive again and again, tried to fix the partiton table and MBR etc. And after half a day I found out that my windows came up after 2 times "invalid partition!". This was the final hint: although my boot order was set up properly it still tried to boot the other 2 drives before (my HDD and mSATA-SSD).
Well, I took out the other 2 drives, booted without error msg, installed the 2 drives again and everything was fine...

    Cheers,
    Alex

M6700 covet IPS screen Vs non-IPS screen on the base m6700

Hi Guys, I hear a lot of banding issues. I am not sure exactly what it means. can you someone explain before I chose this laptop? I am trying to after covet version because of IPS screen and gorilla glass thinking the best screen possible for certain things I do in my scientific world. I am already coming from very troubled partnership with XPS 15 and do not want another headache with this. With lots of trouble shooting etc., I lost a lot of time.

    Please, please kindly educate me.

    Thanks

    Dear netinbd, Thank you.

Is the screen (17.3US FHD(1920x1080)RGBUSH,CV) you are mentioning equal to IPS screen in the covet model?

Also, How good is the base video card in the covet model?. In the m6700 model the video card is nVIdia 4gb card but in covet it is AMD pro 2gb.

If I may again, what is the main difference between covet and 6700.

    my humble thanks

    Yes its also IPS screen
Covet have edge-to-edge screen and its look beautiful then regular ,also covet screen is glare, regular m6700 is antiglare http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7U29SgPyIggn
Depends for what you gonna use video card, if nothing professional then amd card is fine.
