That sucks, but at least you'll have a brand new laptop.

Man Dell needs to stop screwing their hardware repairs up! Most of the time the factories dish out perfectly working machines, but every now and then there's a bad one. It's very rare, but they do occur. Consumers are more likely to complain about a fault with their device than to compliment how well it works (because that was the expectation), which is why 90% of the posts on these forums are mostly about peoples problems, rather than good things they find.

But really, Microsoft is great when it comes to service. Dell though, they take forever to reply to emails, they don't take most suggestions seriously (people want 1920x1200 not 1920x1080), and a lot of the time they screw up their repairs. This is why they get so much bad rep, even though they make excellent quality products. Switching from HP to Dell, I really love Dell's build quality. My Dell feels and looks sexy, if there isn't a better word to describe it, I am not sure about how long they last though, my HP lasted me a good 6+ years before I switched to Dell(better prices and graphics card), but have heard good things.

Dell outsources tech support in some cases and that can be the source of some problems. That really depends on where and what laptop though.

As for the lcd panels, there is more to it now, the panel manufacturers themselves have pretty much stopped making 16:10 panels. Apple still has a valid contract for their non retina 16:10 panels and that is the only reason why panel manufacturers haven't shoved 16:9 panels down their throats. The retina given their high resolution are a different story. Back when 16:9 became popular was the time for manufacturers to put their foot down, but that time is long past and since no one makes 16:10 anymore, it's either get 16:9 and sell at competitive prices or try to get 16:10 and do not sell at a competitive price. For a laptop like the Precision, this could actually work, but for anything consumer oriented, 16:10 is officially dead and it is going to take concerted efforts from more than one manufacturer to change that.

Hi. I am replacing an M6500 with an M6700 and wondering if the dock and chargers I use for the M6500 will work fine on a M6700. I have several of the huge bricks and one of the compact chargers.

    thanks,

    Mike

You need a 210 or 240 watt power supply for the M6700. If you have one of those then you should be set.

(I'm not sure what the M6500 used but it is the same as the M6600. I have several with model number PA-9E.)

Thanks. The big bricks I have are PA-7E Family. model is DA210PE1-00. Looking at the model, I guess it is a 210 watt and should work? I need to check on the slim one later today but think that is a 210 also.

Do you know if the docks/port replicator will work? I have three of those.

    thanks,

    Mike

The 210 *should* work. The M6700 pulls more peak power from the wall than the M6600 or M6500 did. I am personally only using 240's now.

The only way to possibly pull more than 210 is to completely load the CPU and GPU with screen on bright and everything else like wifi running. My guess is that 95% of people will never do it.
