Dell gives the option of the Timbuk2 Slim Case in the M6700 order configuration.

Anybody has a link for this specific case?

Is it better than the other similar two I mentioned?

What do you mean by "better?" My criteria is padding and storage compartments. Although now, after my Lappa fiasco, workmanship may come first.

After all, what good is the rest if your strap/handle breaks and your notebook goes crashing to the ground .

I want to use my m6700 with Nvidia K3000M to drive (3) external Dell U2713H monitors, all running at full 2560x1440 resolution, using DisplayPort daisy-chaining.

You would think that given my desire to buy $3k worth of new monitors from Dell, they would be able to tell me if this will actually work. Ok, ok, this forum has a lot of seriously experienced Dell users, so I guess most of you probably know better than to think that. But in any case, Dell (both sales and tech support) were basically clueless.

The tech support guy told me neither he nor anyone else at Dell really knows, but by doing a google search he found this page: NVIDIA Quadro K3000M - NotebookCheck.net Tech, which appears to suggest that the K3000M can drive up to (4) active displays at up to 3840x2160. This led him to authoritatively opine "So I guess it outta work but it still sounds like an awful lot of pixels to be driving from a laptop to me". Hey, at least the guy was honest.

Before I spend $3k on this experiment, does anyone here have any personal experience to suggest whether or not this will actually work? Seems like it ought to, but I have to agree with the Dell guy that we're talking about a lot of pixels for a laptop video card. I'm a stock market guy, not a gamer, so I don't care about 3D or super-fast motion video transitions, or any of that. But I do need good, solid, flicker free display of a whole bunch of intricate financial charts.

Any insight, cautions or encouragement most welcome!

    Thanks,
    xPat

The K3000M certainly has the memory and power to run that many pixels. Early on we received confirmation that the M6700 supports DisplayPort 1.2 which includes the DisplayPort daisy-chaining. However, I don't think I've heard any reports here from someone who has actually tried using the daisy-chaining feature. I suppose because the monitors are new and relatively expensive, not many people have one or two sitting around to experiment with. I don't know if there are rules as to how many pixels can be used in a daisy-chaining scenario.

Bottom line... It should work but the only way to know for sure is to try it, and I'd love to hear from someone who has tried it. :p

(Note, if you have a dock you should be able to do this even without daisy-chaining, using the two DisplayPorts on the dock and one more on the system itself.)

Agreed. The operative phrase is "should work", and the big question is whether anyone else has tried it.

So far as I can tell, this forum attracts the most advanced m6700 users, and I would think that if this has ever been done before, the person who did it is probably here.

I'll wait a few days to see if anyone can confirm, then if not I'll lean on Dell to see if they will agree to pay round-trip return shipping if it turns out it doesn't work. I doubt the guy on the phone even has that authority, but it seems to me that if their documentation says it will work, and their own tech support guy tells me point blank that nobody at Dell really knows if it works, they ought to absorb the shipping cost risk if it doesn't. But I know better than to think anyone answering the phone thinks like a business person...

I just spoke with a customer care supervisor at Dell and learned the procedure for handling something like this. I'm actually pretty impressed with Dell's policy, and thought others here might find this useful. Here's the procedure.
    1. Call tech support and open a case against the m6700's service tag.
    2. Ask the tech to answer the question, Is driving (3) U2713H monitors at 2560x1440 resolution from my m6700 using DisplayPort daisy-chaining a supported configuration?
    3. Tell the rep the reason you are asking is to establish a documented record that Dell advised you the configuration was supported, and ask them to document the case notes with the information that they advised you it was supported.

The guy I spoke with claims that if it doesn't work, it's a no-questions-asked issue for Dell to issue a full credit AND pick up shipping costs in both directions, but only if you can cite a case number that is documented to say you were advised by Dell that the configuration is supported.

Seems like a totally reasonable policy. I'll report back in this thread on whether and how well the configuration works after I receive the monitors.

    Hi guys.

Is there a way to change the display resolution to others then the three given ones? Can other resolutions be enabled?
    (normal FHD display)

Are you using NVIDIA+Optimus? The Intel GPU doesn't seem to allow many resolutions. If you disable Optimus you might get more.
