Excellent then; and good to hear. It did not compute, but I had no other proof to the contrary. I repeated it because those were the listed specs that if necessary, I could prove.
Then I guess they must be referring solely to the lesser screen? They really need to use better wordings.

Do you know if Enduro (i.e. AMD version of Optimus) will be supported on the M6700? Do you perhaps have any info if AMD is planning to introduce a FirePro version of 7970M?

Very good questions for the hangout. Perhaps if anyone is planning on attending, they can round up the questions and post them back. Of course, we'll still answer them here. I'll ask Mano to weigh in.

We will be hosting the hangout from the Dell Google+ page. Feel free to join in at 4:00 PM, CST, Thursday to ask Mano all the questions you want and just generally hang out with us for an hour or so.

I'm interested in the hangout. Here are some questions:

    • What is the color quality, bit depth, and max brightness of each display available for M4700 and M6700?
    • Is Enduro supported in any configuration of either M4700 or M6700?
    • Is either model upgradable to a post-802.11n wireless tech (e.g. 802.11ac)?
    • Why no Thunderbolt? Are there any future plans regarding Thunderbolt?

I had planned on skipping this product cycle, but my employer has a purchase plan that is burning a hole in my pocket.

I will be at the hangout — if anyone has questions for Mano but won't be able to make it, I'd be happy to pass them along and report back with answers if I get any. I've added the Enduro question to my list.

    [Edit]
Just saw SecretAsianMan's post. Thunderbolt is a good question that I also thought of myself.

I imagine 802.11ac should be doable, just buy a mini-PCIe 802.11ac card and stick it in. I'm not sure how many antennas 802.11ac will use (in its highest-speed configuration) — it's possible that there won't be enough antennas to hook up to the WiFi card and the WWAN card at the same time if it is more than 3. (I'm also not sure if hooking up antennas intended for the WWAN card to the WiFi card is advisable.)

For the screens, I imagine they are the same or very similar to those for the M6600 — 6-bits per color channel for regular displays, and 10-bits for the IPS. 300 nits.

Anyway, I will pass these questions along if you are not able to make it to the hangout (assuming it is not full and I am able to get in :p).

I'm new to this thread, but wondering if this is just me... I don't see Accidental Damage Service for the M4700. Is it supposed to be there or is it not offered for the M4700 for some reason? It's there for the M6700! (even if it is 4 and 5 year options only)

Not sure why the options are not on the web page but you should still be able to get them if you contact a sales rep to place your order. (Which you should do anyway because you usually can get a better price.) I ordered my M6700 with 3-year accidental damage protection, even though it's not available online.
