Any info about if M4700 will use full sized MXM 3.0b graphics cards?

It has not even been released! And you area asking about shipping date :) Possible - somewhere in July-August.

The same about video card - absolutely no info, only wild guesses. The same about the screen.

Only two 2.5" drives? Any idea what they reclaimed all that space for?

On a side note, does the M6600 really have a 989 slot that really supports the 3920XM?

    Hi

I just found this thread after doing a few searches for the new IVY bridge CPUS. The reason is I was JUST about to buy the current Precision Laptop the M4600 15". The guy is going the phone me back in a couple of hours and i was going to spend the money, however after all these threads about new models coming out im a bit unsure what to do.

I got a couple of hundred quid off the website price while on the phone so i'm guessing that might have something to do with the new models coming out?

Anyone have any more info on this at all? I'm on the fence between getting the current model at a maybe reduced price or hanging around for the next refresh which could be........ how long? Who knows. Any one know?!

It might suck if i spend almost 2K on a laptop which gets updated the next week!

It's not going to be next week. Minimum wait time should be 2 to 3 months. Summer time......my guess:)

I doubt very few people outside Dell know when the release dates will be, but IVY Bridge laptops are being announced all over the place at the moment.

Question you have to ask is how urgently do you need the new laptop?

If I had the option of waiting 2/3 months or so for the latest technology I would definitely be going for that. There does not seem too great an advantage over SB and IB but new is always best.

well.... I've just been offered a full refund on my M6600 due to unresolvable technical issues (screen related, long story... not important now but don't get the LG Multi-touch panel) and I'm considering taking it and waiting for the M6700.

    BUT...

Ivy Bridge CPU is of little importance to me as it is basically the same performance as my 2860QM, the only difference is the HD4000 graphics - which would be nice. However for me personally the only real reasons to wait for the M6700/M4700 are:

    HD4000 integrated graphics
    New graphics cards
Edge to Edge Monkey glass screen (sounds better :))

Everything else is going to be basically the same (imo).

But.... I think I'll hang on and wait.

    Wow....a full refund....great

I got an offer for alienware m17x for like 2300 USD, quite well specs, but I turned it down......once you got a precision, it's difficult to look at other laptops. For me, the built in mouse & keyboards (mine doesn't have much flex), the screens (RGB led) is just awesome. Still using the precision m6400 now......it is built like a tank, service & support is top notch, where to find?

M6700, looking forward to it :)

This is no different than the previous model. M6600 only supports two 2.5" drives. If you want more you have to remove the optical drive.
