Also, I thought that if you get a Precision w/ Win 7 Pro, you automatically get a Win 8 Pro license as well?

That's how it worked for me (no NewEgg Pro Pack needed).

Quick question for those of you already have your M3800. I ordered the top of the line config in mid-January, and finally saw that my system has moved from pre-production to production. Has the actual delivery date been pretty close to the estimate, or are you seeing it move pretty fast once it hits production? My current estimate is March 13 - almost 5 weeks after it moved to production.

Yes, take a deep breath. They took their sweet time with mine, but I have zero defects... tell them to go slow.

Yeah, I want to try a dual boot and I got all this BS licensing stuff from Dell. Why not just buy a OEM license from NewEgg and be done with it for what may be $100.

I have to say that I have zero, nada, none, nunca, rien, of useful information with Dell on my M3800 after purchase (or before for that matter).

    Good morning!

The only thing I'm really missing in the specifications is a 3G module.
I can see from the pictures, that a WLAN/Bluetooth-combination is already in the NGFF-slot.

Did anybody try to exchange it with another card with 3G?
What other options are you using? A 3G-USB-stick is so ugly and inconvenient...

They build such a fine notebook and are not able to offer 3G as an option. I really can not understand DELL :|

    Thanks a lot,
    Harald.

Firstly, I want to thank you all for a fantastic thread, it contains a lot of helpful information.
On the back of it I ordered a M3800 with the QHD+ screen and 16gb of Ram
To save a bit of cost I ordered it with the Hybrid drive.
I am waiting on it to be delivered in about a week's time.

My plan was to order a Samsung 512GB SSD, 840 Pro Series, SATA III and swap them myself.
Looking at the photos Mr_Handy posted it wouldn't seem like a big job to swap the drives.
I was planning to use Clonezilla to image the factory install and put the factory HDD on the shelf.

Is there anything I am missing? Would changing the HDD have any impact on my warranty?

Make sure you get a high quality T5 torx driver or bit.

    Also take static precautions.

Somebody, who uses the "factory installed" Windows 7, please give me a list or a print screen of the installed softwares. I would highly appreciate it!

Well you have all sold me on the m3800. I went for the top 512 GB spec and had Dell extend my warranty by a few years. I believe the estimated delivery is about 5 weeks but I am fine with them taking their time to get it right. I wanted it shipped with Win 8.1 installed but they informed me that in Canada this isn't an option. Possibly to do with the certifications etc. But I am unsure yet once I get it if I will upgrade or not. I often hear that machines don't perform quite as fast once you format a new install.

I would expect a clean install with the correct drivers to be faster rather than slower, but the difference will likely be minimal.
