I agree, and this discovery was sort of the last straw that prompted me to write to Direct2Dell about this whole splendid mode fiasco. It's bad enough that an oversaturated color profile is the default setting, but then they buried it in Mobility Center where nobody thinks to look for color calibration issues, and only surface that setting when the machine booted with the built-in panel enabled. Worst of all is that they didn't do this on some panel that only has mediocre performance anyway; this QHD+ panel even before calibration is better than most professional desktop panels AFTER calibration. But I have a feeling most people will never discover that fact since they'd either have to learn about this "feature" or do a clean Windows reinstall (not using the factory image) to get rid of it. Instead they'll just be staring at stupidly oversaturated colors or perhaps even return the unit over color issues, as one photographer was about to do in the XPS 15 thread before I told him about this setting, which switched his attitude about this display instantly from hate to love. He now finds it more accurate than his professional display.

So close and yet so far on this one, Dell. :(

It seems like an accident. In my reading of 'splendid' mode comments, it was designed to improve the look of low end TN displays that have limited color resolution. It should be definitely be disabled by default...they should push out an update for that.

Since we're discussing the display anyway. I brought this up in the XPS 15 thread, but didn't get any replies.

Has anyone else noticed a very low response time on their display? I know some degree of ghosting is normal, but I've never seen it anywhere near as bad as it is on this screen. I've noticed it several times without looking for it; strange 'ripple' effects on moving black and white images, blending backgrounds in games, etc. It's, by far, most noticeable on dark backgrounds. Is this normal, or is my screen defective?

One other person has noted this, however my display shows no such effect. It could very well be defective - try opening a support case with ProSupport, they're very responsive.

EDIT: I did a little searching around and it seems that the latest ipad mini also uses sharp igzo's, but that shipments are slow due to low yield caused by thin film transistor problems with "burn in" (inaccurate term). The described effect matches your description. I would guess you have a display from early in the run, or that made it through QC when it shouldn't have.

I don't see this issue with my laptop display at all.

Thank you all very much for the replies, that's reassuring. Dell has offered to replace the laptop, so it looks like everything is going to be okay.

I noticed a strange and annoying ringing in my M3800. When I disconnect the charger this noise disappears, but sometimes I feel it even when the charger is not connected. In someone else happens this problem?

Maybe you are talking of the famous coil whine or buzz noise.
Do you hear specially when you are scrolling?

Finally I am seeing a shipped status on my unit....
I cannot wait to get it and hopefully I will be one of the lucky ones without any major issues.
I hope that this long delay of almost 2 months will have been worth the wait and that some of those issues were addressed in the models coming out...
I will let you know once I have it in hand and tried it out... keeping my fingers crossed...
