Oh, while I remember: my order has been cancelled due to "lack of components" and a new order has been placed in stead of the previous one. Expected delivery is now Feb. 4... Hooray...

Just got my machine, so I'm still setting it up. It shipped with Win7 installed and I put 8.1 on - I've been installing all the drivers from dell's site, not sure if they came with the usb key or not. Some of the drivers there don't apply to the config it seems.

One issue I've seen on my QHD screen are some clusters of dead pixels. Very small, hard to see. I thought they were just some dust at first, but closer inspection with a loupe reveals its the pixels. My M4500 had this when I got it too and they promptly sent a tech out to my office to replace the screen - will see if the same occurs here. Seems these QHD screens have some manufacturing issues.

Google "xrite displayprofile" and download it to your desktop. It's a little app that will let you quickly reset the color profile of the display its sitting on. I used to use this when connecting/disconnecting an external monitor, sometimes things would go weird. I've seen various complaints/solutions about this, sometimes the fix is in windows color management, but often its the video driver that's doing the reset. I just made a habit out of resetting with displayprofile every boot.

There is also this revealed by MSI at CES...but not many details MSI Concept Gaming Notebook Possibly World's Lightest

and that new X1 carbon...definitely interesting...although that led function panel above the keyboard sounds like a recipe for technological problems..leds all turning on same time, none functioning, etc etc...i can see the problems from now - but if Dell doesnt get me a machine (which is already delayed by a few weeks) in tip top shape, i'll likely go with the new X1 carbon which goes on sale at the end of the month. Only real drawback there is that damn 8 GB RAM and no option for 16 as far as I know. As well as the dual core vs Dell's quadcore. Hmmm..
