    Yes, I'm well aware of the drive bay issue (I've been kvetching about it ever since I started this search). That, and the MXM issue, fall under the rubric of "screen size".

    Yep those are the important considerations i had to decide when i ordered mine. I went for the 7710 primarily because of the screen size (desktop replacement) and also the 2 x m.2 (future raid, additional drive etc). Have not regretted it

    Anyone have experience with replacing the motherboard on a 7710 (in case I find otherwise the perfect machine at the right price but want a faster CPU)? Any gotchas or anything?

    i think if replaced with Dell there will be no issues as it is under warranty

    Sorry, this would mean replaced by myself (as an upgrade) with a part bought aftermarket, not through Dell service.

    i have had one of my Precision replaced the MB, the Dell tech came to my home and it was quite a complicated process but i guess if the MB is correct and the process is sound it should not have any problems.
