It is sad that ProSupport is arguing about this with you. Here is the unresolved issues form for Dell USA:

    https://www.dell.com/support/incidents-online/us/en/04/email/unresolved

It may take them a few days but they will usually respond after reviewing the case with either an additional dispatch for repair or possibly an offer to send a new machine of like kind and quality, taking your old machine back and switching the remainder of its warranty over. It tends to be more of a customer relations type of avenue so they will usually do whatever can get the issue resolved as quickly and conveniently for you.

That happened with me several times in a row. I bought a Precision M70 in around 2002 I think it was. It went wrong and they couldn't fix it, so replaced it with an M6500 (after I emailed Michael Dell). That then went wrong and got replaced with an M6600. Unbelievably it happened again and they gave me an M6700. Unfortunately that worked fine for many years so I ended up having to fund my next upgrade myself....

Still, a total of around £12k worth of laptops from an initial £2k purchase!

Hello, could anyone please let me know if the heatsink for RTX3000 and RTX5000 are the same :( just ordered a 7740 with RTX3000 and do not know if i can upgrade to RTX4000 / 5000 later without swapping heatsink, thanks much!

I think the RTX 3000 heatsink is different than the RTX 4000 / RTX 5000 heatsink, based on the part number information:

    Thank you much!
    RTX4000 is 500+ $ more than RTX3000 and RTX5000 is 900+ $
Could anyone recommend best performance / price VGA, thank you!

There's basically no reason to get a RTX 5000 unless you need the extra vRAM or tensor cores. It is power starved (RTX 4000 and RTX 5000 both have 110W power limit), so performance is only ≈5% higher than RTX 4000 in most applications.

For anyone that's interested or had a similar issue....

This morning Dell replaced the heatsink and fans. The system runs so much cooler now. The processor has been at 100% for ages building a 3D point cloud model, and all the core temps are in the high 70s/low 80s. Before, they used to regularly be in the mid-high 90s.

The GPU under heavy load (at the same time as the CPU being maxed out) stays in the low 70s. Before it was always in the high 80s/90s, and the PC regularly went into hibernation due to the "critical thermal event".

I'll second this. The speakers on my 7740 have excellent volume, but the sound quality is mediocre. They work fine for teleconferences or other situations where high fidelity is not critical, but you'll want headphones or external speakers for music, video editing, etc.

I've got the 4K non-glare panel and am entirely happy with it. Once I calibrated it with an external colorimeter, it's extremely pleasant to use even over a long workday. I am a 3D content developer and systems programmer, so I often have creative apps or programming tools that need to put a lot of data on the screen at once. The 4K panel on the 7740 is retina-level resolution. I set my UI scaling at 150% or 175%, so I get more content on the screen than an equivalent FHD panel, but without shrinking it so much that I have to squint to read the text.

For brightness, all I can say is this: I prefer a fairly high level of screen brightness compared to most people, and even under fluorescent office lighting, I run this panel at 80% and not max. It's nice to have some headroom on that slider!

My 7740 is on the way, service tag show it uses Innolux panel
    D P/N: RH0D3 - LCD,17.3UHD,AG,EDP1.3,INX
Does anyone have same part number and have detail manufacture code of that display? Only find one from INX N173DSE-G31
My previous 7710 / 7720 use AUO panel

I had a similar experience. Bought first dell Feb 2008, xps m1530, replaced by dell support in Nov 2011 with L501x, then I bought an inspiron 7559 around 2016, replaced by asurion (walmart's warranty extended coverage carrier at the time) in 2019, and just ordered the 7740 with 5 years nbd onsite support w/ adc. Not a fan of add ons, but hasn't hurt me yet. I always recommend it to friends who ask.
