Sorry about the delay, I'd given up on this. Thanks, Mike. Your approach has somewhat worked - though the app is far more limited to the Synaptics app I had. For example, tap zones, chiral scroll, etc. The Dell app allows more features than default Windows 10 settings, and I now have middle click on two finger tap, right click on three finger tap, etc. by hacking some registry values. That's immensely better than the Windows 10 ones.

Might have been too hasty. It seems like that takes away some Win 10 gestures. Three finger swiping no longer seems to work. Are you also seeing this, Mike?

three finger swiping can tab between apps, but I would much more prefer back/forward.

Followed the last link from Mike F. I did step 1, 2 but not step 3. When I had rebooted, I went into the Dell software and enabled 3 finger swiping under gestures.

    I'm now swiping forward/backward with 3 fingers.

    1. Open registry edit by Win+R, regedit, ENTER. Go all the way down to
      • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
      • SOFTWARE
      • Synaptics
      • SynTP
      • Win10
      • 3FingerGestures
    2. Change the value for two keys, ActionID3 and ACtionID7 to 1c

    3. Remove values associated any keys of PluginID1xx (Leave ID1, 3, 5, 7 as SynTP)
    4. Sign out of Windows and sign-in.

I downloaded the Synaptics I2C driver and just replaced the HID compatible touchpad driver with it. Marked improvement in responsiveness. Touchpad is miles better now

What driver did you use before? Mike F's fix or other?
Don't wanna loose the gestures and 3 finger swipe back/forward.

I was using the dell/Windows standard drivers as all other solutions did not help. I can see a Synaptics task running in the task manager but no settings pane. Have not lost any functionality including three finger swipe. I can confirm that the trackpad functions almost 95% as my MBP.
I will post a screen shot in the morning.
