so the Function-pgup/pgdn/home/end keys are growing on me.
keyboards with dedicated keys tend to have them on the top row, where it is hard to find them. this is actually pretty easy.

the keyboard still sucks generally, but this sucks a little less. sure wish I didn't need the speed/memory so I could use a Surface Book

I remember seeing new drivers out for the Ethernet on Dell support website for 5510. One of the issues addressed was Ethernet connection dropping out i believe. Give it a shot!

EDIT: I could have sworn i read something about connection drop but this is the closest i can find on Dell support:

I remember seeing the Intel as the culprit and people was forcing the laptop to use the Nvidia graphics all the time as it was more stable. There is a new version of Intel 100 chipset drivers out, give it a shot:

Updated the BIOS and now my machine at least will load the proper driver for the USB-C to DisplayPort adapter that I bought.

no luck here, I keep getting invalid-file errors after download on the intel 100 chipset, and the other download says not compatible with this system

Yeah i had heaps of usb c drop outs with the usb-c to ethernet adapter that was provided with the precision.
(even had 2 of them for some reason both same issues)

Anyway unsure if its related but my mobo died soon after.. getting replaced Monday so will notify if it helped the usb-c to ethernet issues.

FYI: I just upgraded my Precision 5510 (Xeon) with a Kingston HyperX DDR-2400. Clock speed is 2400, as expected. Geekbench result is a few percent higher than before (3900/13800 vs 3400/13000), obviously no noticeable real life performance diff.

Does this fix address these issues, you think?

I sent back a Precision 5510 (i7, IGZO, 1 TB m.2 PCIe NVMe, Win 7) after getting a "Hard Drive -S/N ######, incorrect status = ####, Could not send DST Short" error. Unlike for Ryan Patch, the January BIOS update didn't help, just gave me this error. Previously my ePSA diagnostic error had read "Hard drive not found." Also, I had Win 7, so it may not be an OS related issue, chris.belsky.

Anyway, I want to try again. The 5510 is the only machine I want right now, I just want one that doesn't give me errors that seem so alarming. But I'm not that technically oriented about computers, so I can't install my own Samsung SSD or figure out if AHCI mode is really worth a try, so I'm asking for help. Is it reasonable to believe the BIOS update would have taken care of the PCIe NVMe issue? Or is it possible the update addressed another issue entirely?

Or am I more likely to have better luck ordering a different SSD? Like the 512GB 2.5 inch High Performance SATA SSD? Would that be something of a performance hit? (I run pretty heavy resource-intensive CAD programs.)

Thanks in advance for any thoughts and recs.
