BIOS 1.5.0 has been released.
Fixes & Enhancements
1. Enhance audio quality when the brightness is adjusted

3. Allows Dell Command Configure to implement the required Thunderbolt Sec Level settings without the need to access the BIOS.
4. Fixed a Bitlocker recovery issue when Dell Thunderbolt Dock is connected to the system, and PCR1 is selected in the Bitlocker Group Policy

This is the worst policy. It is really a safety issue. My 5510's battery swollen so bad that it pushed/popped the touchpad up 1/2 inch. I was lucky that I opened a case 7 days before the 1 year warranty expires.

 

I received a follow-up email today advising that the battery replacement had been approved. I have to wonder whether Dell UK hadn't been advised about the service bulletin and had to check with Dell HQ.

The replacement battery arrived today. It's also Simplo 84Whr. Close scrutiny of the labelling revealed:

(i) The serial number on the 3D bar code label on the old battery ends in -A01 and on the new battery ends in -A02.
(ii) The date code on the 3D bar code label on the old battery is 2016-07 and on the new battery is 2017-08 (ie these batteries have been produced after the higher capacity battery in the 5520 was released - perhaps at Simplo's expense to replace the earlier batteries).
(iii) The Simplo part number to the right of the IC symbol on the old battery is PP32LI137Q-1 and on the new battery is PP32CO137Q-2.

Some of the above info must identify which batteries are potentially faulty.

I am amazed they didn't just ship the 97wh batteries that are in current production, oh well I guess Simplo had to do what Dell wanted in this case.

 

Something I noticed while studying the labels is that the batteries (both new and old) says 7260 mAh, 13.2V which, by my reckoning, is 95.8Whr. I have to wonder whether Dell is deliberately under-rating them, perhaps to improve longevity.

Hi guys

Im just coming from reading 157 pages of official gigabyte aero 15 thread (proof of that is my homework that I did on it, i posted there all the summary that I extracted from it). And finally I decided against that laptop, after disappointing behaviour from Gigabyte. Especially the lie about the screen quality.

After alot of research I ended up here. So I really cant spend another month reading another thread... Could someone please just tell me the most common problems about 5510 fhd version?

And my second question is wether or not is this laptop dell precision 5510(fhd version)good enough for my needs?

My needs are doing photo and video editing. And rendering. No gaming. No surfing.
I would edit some 4k footage from gh4/gh5, which is up to 10bit 4:2:2 400mbps. But I would opt for fhd version because of the price and because I think 4k is too small for an 15,6"? So I would basically work with fhd preview, then export as 4k(or fhd depends).

What are your thoughts on this? Can this lap manage it?
(Ive read somewhere that its better then xps15 for this matter.)

And yes, the most important, is the fhd screen of this laptop really that great and colour accurate(99% srgb) or not?

I think the biggest problems were with the BIOS and Thunderbolt. Both of these have now been quite well debugged. There's also a recall on the older 84Whr battery which has been known to swell and cause damage.

Datacolor Spyder measured the Sharp SHP1453 LQ156M1 panel on my 5510 as 99% SRGB. I think this is the only FHD panel used on the 5510.

I have no experience of your type of workload but the Quadro GPU in the 5510 is effectively a slightly detuned (for better stability?) version of the dGPU in the XPS15 9550. I'm sure it could do your rendering but, as with almost anything relating to computing, there's something else out there which can do it faster. But if you want a good balance of excellent 15.6" display, portability and good performance then the FHD version of the Precision 5510 (or the 5520) ticks the right boxes. The 4k display also hits the battery time significantly.

Battery!
If I chose the 84wh one am I going to get the one that makes trouble?
Also, if I chose that one I have no choice but to use only M2 ssd that can have throttling issues.
The 84wh battery doesnt allow any 2.5" drive nor additional hard drive, which I think I would need - better to use internal then external for storing material that I will be using in my projects. What do you think?
I cant do video editing on battery anyway, it will drain it fast. Shall I just go with the 3-cell?
