    Hello All

Have purchased quite a few systems from Dell (usual channels and outlet) first time I had this happen on an outlet order.

Decided over the weekend to take advantage of the 15% coupon and order a Latitude from the outlet. My estimated delivery date was 9/4.

Monday afternoon I get an email stating my order will be delayed, new ETA 9/14. Wasn't able to call during the day but suprisingly late in the evening I see the status change to Shipped, ETA was still showing 9/14. Tracking info has not been available ("temporarily unavailable"). Today again, I missed the customer support window to call so I though I would try automated, it states shipping will not happen until the 8th (kind of explains the 14th as the ETA).

This was supposed to be an in stock config, will call Dell tomorrow but am curious if this has happened to anyone else and what type of system did you end up receiving (new, refurbed, etc)

    I'm in the same status.
In additional, I ordered a back-lit keyboard and in the order status listed a
    regular keyboard.

Does anyone know if I could get a refund? If so, on what amount?

    thanks

Even though you don't see any tracking info on Dell's website, you can easily get that from FedEx's site. Just do a tracking by reference, enter your zip code and your order number. You'll find out when it is scheduled to arrive.

The law allows you 15-days (Dell gives you 20-days) to return your laptop if you are not satisfied with it. See what you have FIRST, then Call Costumer Service via phone to return the system (Dell pays shipping), or have it corrected. Human errors can occur, no one is perfect.

Thanks, I contacted Dell customer service.
and they told me that my system has a back-lit keyboard
which my order status shows the opposite.

and they also told me that my package was shipped and should arrive tomorrow
again different than the info I have on my order status.

They should update this info regularly.

You sure your order shows a non-backlit keyboard? Post it here so we can see.

But yes, Dell's site does not stay updated very often.

    From order status:
    Module,Keyboard,83,United States,English,Black,EMDB World Wide

But the customer service rep was 100% that the system has a back-lit keyboard.

On FedEx the package weight listed as 10 lbs, I thought it should weight 5 lbs, does anyone know what the other 5 lbs stand for?

What should I do if my shipping status has this info: Cannot locate recipient

    Thanks

Can you please point to any law that states that?

Return without restocking fees within a certain time period is not a right backed by any law. It is a privilege, and a benefit of buying from Dell Business.

Why do you freak out on nothing?
It's probably packaging, or it's just the minimum weight they can mark is 10lbs. It's all part in business deal they did with FedDex. Some companies, when you order something, like a cable or USB stick, send you a big box... why a big box? it's just like that, that is part of the contract they signed with the courier.

Laws varies between countries and provinces/state. Visit the your state website for all the details.
In Canada, it's the law that every merchant provides a 15-day full refund without any additional fees, and after the 15-days pass, there is a 15-day additional to that is at the merchant desecration (unless it's says on the bill, without your agreement BEFORE the sale that the sale is final). Usually you get a store credit or return with a restock fee. You also have a minimum of 90-day warranty on all products forced by the government. I dont' know about other provinces, but in Quebec you also have the legal warranty. What is it? Let's say you buy a TV and it has 1 year warranty, and at the second year it breaks, just like that, and the TV is in great condition. You can take to small claim court the company, and a judge if weather a TV should last more than what you experience, if yes. The judge can rule a force warranty on the company to offer you (I think it's 5-7 years for a TV), and repair your TV for free. This is one reason why most companies offer a big price cut on the service if you ask over the phone, or will even repair it for free if it's just out of warranty a few days, as sending a representative to court for a case they know they will lose at 100% cost more then just repair your product. And that is why store extended warranty is like buying air.

Here is a overview of each law:

    Happy reading (it's in French).
It is important for EVERY consumer to know their rights!

For example. My Wii GameCube slot broke, out of warranty. I called Nintendo Canada, and said it will be 85$ to repair. I said that the console is in perfect condition (which it was) and used Nintendo official accessories (true), and negotiate a price. I ended up with:
    - 25$ fee (which is less then the small claim court fee) to my problem resolved.
    - A brand new Wii console unit (the unit itself only) and not a repair of the unit (Nintendo was nice)
    - Shipping paid both direction (return and receive the new console)
    - A new GameCube memory card with the save game transferred (old memory card returned with broken console)
    - A new 1 year warranty starting the day I receive my console.

Anyway, in general it's 15-days return, and if you they ask for a restock fee you can get waved if your returned is well justified (ie: NOT "I don't like the color", but rather "that is not what i ordered.")
