Any update on this? Is it listed in Premier yet?

    Thanks.

I haven't been watching the 7470/7270, but just checked premier and neither one shows any of the upgraded GPUs -- just the i5-6300U or i7-6600U. At least on the account I have access to.

Thanks mr_handy! Dell is really dragging their feet on this one. Some of their consumer models have had the Intel HD 540 for a while now.

At least the chips are out there; despite the announcement more than a month ago, I can't find any evidence anyone is actually shipping machines based on the i7-6870HQ or other Iris Pro 580 CPUs.

FWIW, I talked to dell, and the rep said they were waiting on intel regarding the iris parts for the 7000 series. So it sounds like intel is once again having supply issues on it's bigger GPUs. Which is real dissapointing, because a 7270 with iris GPU, LTE modem, and linux mint is my dream laptop. Throw in a 950 pro 512GB and 16GB 2133 ddr4 memory, and itd so be worth the money.

Also, the 580 wont be around for awhile. the iris pro NUC wont be available for another month.

Wow, thanks TheinsanegamerN! Who did you talk to at Dell? None of the reps I contacted knew anything. As I said previously, some of Dell's consumer models have had the Intel HD 540 for a while now. I wonder if they meant that Intel isn't selling enough of them yet or if that rep didn't know what they are taking about. Maybe Intel isn't selling 540 with vPro yet?

    EDIT:
That config sounds pretty amazing! I want something similar, except I want the E7470 with the trackpoint. I wonder if they will ever offer the E7x70 series with Linux on the website or if we will have to pay the Windows tax.

History shows that it can take some time for the fabrication process for each new generation of CPUs to be tweaked and give good yields of the high end parts. The CPU chips are basically the same and get tested for what they can, and cannot, do. Defective and unwanted parts are then disabled. High performing low power chips are the rarest because they are the most difficult to make.

There were retailers still showing the 4/30 release date right up until 4/30; I'm waiting to see if the current 5/15 release date holds, and if there are any formal laptop announcements to go with it even if it does.
