Wow, we are in February and still no sign of LatitudeON. Shame on you, Dell!

I am doing a follow-up post in this thread on my order of a Dell E4200.

I have now received it with the following spec:
1.4 GHz, 64GB fast SSD, 3GB ram, Intel 5100, HSDPA-card, Bluetooth, ON Reader, 4-cell battery, 45W adapter, external DVD-burner, WinXP.
No back light keyboard since it will never be available here in Sweden (The market is too small, however it is available for the E4300).

    I previously have a Dell X1.

    Pros:
    * Love the screen compared to my X1 - So much brighter and clearer
    * Fast SSD and CPU - Enough for my requirements with 3GB ram, boot up is fast, Hibernate is fast, application launch is fast
    * Light - The computer is so light you are amazed. And the 45W power adapter is very small (and good with 2-pin euro contact only instead of 3-pin as we have in Sweden for regular Dell power supply).

Cons (as mentioned elsewhere in this forum):
    * FAN NOISE - Why oh why does the fan have to start at all times!? With a SSD the computer could be silent but the fan destroys that by starting and running for long periods of time as soon as you do some work or start a program)
    * Keyboard - I do agree that the non back light keyboard is rather noisy, I would have loved to have the back light option but as I mentioned it is not available in Sweden...
    * Dell Control Point Software - Ok, it does work but it is not user friendly and seems to use a lot of system resources. I only need it to connect to HSDPA-networks.
    * Power button quality feel. On such an expensive computer the power button should not feel like a sponge. It should be distinct to the press and give a tactile response. It is not.
    * Touch buttons for volume. Not a good idea. They are hard to see and press. And they are not lit up. They should.

To conclude, it was a very nice upgrade for me. I however hope that Dell fix the fan problem with software/BIOS updates in the future. And the keyboard is something I will most likely get used to, but I will miss the back light...

And I am also waiting for the Latitude ON card. However now with the fast boot and resume time for Windows I think I will boot Windows most of the time anyway.

Actually it's way more expensive to make it as a sponge than click.
Click feels ultra cheap. One day look at the Acer laptop. It feels so cheap that I REALLY want to brake the machine with my hands. Moreover, it ads noise for nothing. Quiet rules, noise... not.

I would love to buy the E4200, but I feel the SSD's offered kind of constricting. I need lots and lots of internal storage space. I would upgrade to some bigger SSD on NewEgg, but they're all 2.5" SSD's, and the E4200 takes 1.8". And apparently the E4200 can't accept 1.8" SATA regular hard drives either? What are my options in terms of bigger internal hard drives?

Phil83, what is your power settings?
Also, use CPU-X or Everest to know the real speed of your system, it could be a bug in the gadget.

As ethnocentric as we Americans are, Dell does have customers around the world :)

    The numbers speak for themselves.
