I think I'll stick with the 2.6, it should be fast enough and it's half the price anyway!

Any recommendations for additional cooling? This little c640 feels great in the winter on my lap but spring is here in ATL so I'll need to do something if this thing runs hotter with the hotrod upgrade. I cooked it's original "ram kabobs" last summer.
    Thanks for the help!:D

your best bet would be a good laptop cooler to set it on to keep it off your lap and keep the vents from being blocked by fabric.

What operating system are you using? How much of your RAM is being used? It could be that some of the programs you are running and using up most of your RAM. The RAM would also be easier to upgrade than the CPU.

XP SP3. I've already upgraded to 2 Gigs of high density RAM I found on ebay and they work great. A C640 isn't supposed to be able to run but 1 Gig. I had a major ram suck whenever i opened outlook. When I opened it a gig of ram would be lost to it. I tried eliminating old emails but nothing worked. I would have to close it before I could do anything else smoothly. I even tried un installing and reinstalling office. The only thing that finally worked was to start another user profile and move all my files and folders to it and then I deleted my old profile. That helped some of the heat and I also recently had to change out the mother board because the ac adaptor connector was damaged when I dropped it about a month ago. It seems to be running even a little cooler now so the new fan that came on the new board must be a helping too. I may have helped my heat problems with all this but
i'll have to wait for summer to be sure.

I found that out after I ordered it and it had the integrated cooler on the back. I thought it looked different but tried it anyway. The Dell wouldn't boot at all, it just sat there. I then downloaded SiSoftSandra and found it would only handle a 2.4Mhz and it would have to be a Mobile CPU. I returned it and the right one is on it's way. It's an SL6K5. It wasn't as common and a new one was pricey so I had to settle for a used one with a warranty. We'll see.....

The C640 uses Intel Pentium 4M processors
    You need a P4M with a 400MHz FSB.
The fastest processor I ever installed in a C640 was a 2.0GHz P4M, and it worked.
    I would think the 2.2, 2.4 and 2.6GHz P4M's will also work
However the cooling system isnt the best so you may want to download I8KFANGUI to increase the fan speed to cut running temperatures
