I updated to this driver and noticed that one of its files stacsv.exe would use 48-50% of the cpu power at all times. This would start after a resume from standby most times. I noticed it after my battery would start to drain faster then it should under the operations I was performing (email and typing notes). I went back to the initial driver that came with the unit and this issue went away so far. Has anyone else noticed this?

I'm also using the 6087 IDT driver and cannot replicate your problem. This is with XP. Are you running XP or Vista? stacsc.sys is using up about 1 second per hour on my E6400. I've tried suspending and resuming a few times to see if it triggers anything.

What Power Scheme are you using (I'm using the standard Portable / Laptop profile)? Have you enabled any of the extended battery options.

I was looking on the Dell site and it looks like the XP drivers might be different then the Vista drivers. The XP drivers are listed as A03 and the Vista as A04. It might be an issue with the Vista drivers only.

As a matter of fact I have, just a few minutes ago. I didn't notice it until my system fan kicked into high gear, then I just happened to read your post. I'm running Vista, updated the driver yesterday. I just uninstalled and reverted to the old driver, and the problem is gone for now.

Good to hear that I am not the only one. Has to be a issue with the driver. I am going to contact Dell later and make them aware of my issue.

Can anyone recommend a good way fo bringing issues like this to Dell's attention? I mean for "annoying" rather than "critical" bugs where I don't necessarily want to spend the rest of my life on hold waiting to be told to re-install, or reboot etc, but I want to make sure they realise there are people with issues that they should look into?

I have Vista 64-bit, it's been 4 days I heavily use the machine (battery Power saving, and Plugged High Performance), and I don't have this issue.
The only issues I have is that the Enhancement found in the sound panel doesn't work (but I don't care), and that when you press the mute while using the laptop speakers you hear that it mutes the right then the left speakers after in half a second... it does the mute... it's just it doens't sound like a professional job was done on the drivers. What is strange is that it doesn't occur using the headphones, left/right mutes togther at the same time.

This gremlin bit me, too. Stacsv.exe was using just shy of 50% of the processor. Had downloaded the latest drivers from Dell over the weekend. Uninstalled them and all is back to normal. Vista 32 bit.

    Hi

I have installed XP Professional on to my Dell E6400. I have managed to find and install all drivers except one. Device manager is advising me that I need to install a driver for an 'audio device on high definition audio bus'. I have already installed the IDT 92XXHD audio driver rev A01. This has installed the sound but I am still missing a driver for the above.

Please can anyone help. I am obliged to use XP so am not able to install Vista on this machine.

    Thank you
    Warren
