I am looking for a quality aftermarket batt in this config. I cannot afford a Dell and am not sure if Dell still makes batts for this notebook. There are aftermarket batts of 6600mAh (using 2200 mAh cells), 7200mAh (using 2400mAh) and 7800mAh (using 2600mAh cells). last year I bought an aftermarket batt which now only has 42% of its design capacity left. So I posted this to find out if other users could recommend good quality aftermarket batts with good cells in them.

You can find a genuine DELL on ebay pretty cheap. Also, consider the secondary battery,if you don't need the optical drive all the time. Those can be found very cheap.

    Hey guys,

Really late to the party, but I picked up a D830 today for $55, wondering three things so far:

Does it support say a T9300? I have read that it does on a few forums but I want to make sure first, also does it improve battery life? :)
What is the Cellular chip function do? Like a mobile data sim or what?
What are the wireless cards like in them/what size are they?

    Mine came with:
    Core 2 Duo T7500
2GB DDR2 667 I think, not sure -Gonna check soon
    80GB SATA HDD,
    1680 x 1050 screen (YAY!)
Not sure if I have a DVD RW or just a DVD R yet though.

I also got the dock for it for the $55 too! One happy camper here!
Mind you, my last laptop was an ASUS N61JQ with an i7 and high end graphics card. This thing may feel slow to me for a bit :p

EDIT: Also already arranged a 320GB HDD and a set of 4GB RAM for $60 for it. Gotta sell the old RAM off soon :D

Instead of that 320gb hdd I would recommend an ssd for it. I have a 160gb ssd in mine with mac os x and win7 dual boot. Upgraded dvd to bluray and added finger print reader. Terrific notebook still esp with the 1680x1050 glossy screen.

Yes it does. Make sure you have the latest BIOS. Battery life should increase, but it may not be huge.

    I concur.

Yes I do love the screen! I picked it up for $55 as I said and it has a few marks in it.. But it's do-able. Picking up 2 more today, one for a friend and one for my auntie.. I'll be swapping the screen out for the best one seeing as I got it and that my Auntie especially won't be using it a lot.

This is great! Works out well for my auntie! :)

Yeah, the latest is A17? Awesome to know, I'll order the new CPU soon.. When I sell my litecoins. Just waiting for the price to come back up. :)

And I'm getting the 4GB of RAM + 320GB HDD for $60 AUD, which is a steal considering a 320GB HDD new is ~$45 and the RAM is $80. I will probably go to a SSD one day, just not right now. I can't really afford it..

UPDATE: Just got two more @$60 each, they have T7300's and mine has a T7500 :D I'm taking the screen out of one of the others for mine so I have a nice screen as mine has a few dead pixels :p

So my screen is the nicest, the others have got stains in them.. Rubbing with metho does nothing..

I also had a lot of rubbish on the GPU part of the heatsink.. So i lapped it with some 2000 Grit sandpaper, and the CPU too. I'll put some photos up after :)

Those were GREAT laptops. Along with the 630, there are a ton of them still around. I still recommend them over any $400 HP new.

If you want that, you'll have to DIY something... as far as I know there is no backlit keyboard that fits the Dx20/Dx30 Latitudes out of the box.

There's a thread somewhere on NBR that details some guy's attempt to mod a backlit keyboard into an M1530... you could try to find that and take a look.
