Doesn't sound like it, bro. I guess most of us are just learning to live with it.

The thing is, I'd rather it be brighter and crisper - I can live with the leakage if it's a tradeoff for better contrast and color reproduction.

Anybody experiencing lounder and lounder fan noise in a couple of months use? I still can't find software to display and/or control the laptop fan speed.

I've been experiencing a bit more fan-on time lately, but it's been the of the same noise level as ever. I wouldn't suggest using some program to try to force your fan less though... maybe just try dusting out your heatsink assembly if you work in a rather dusty locale... or your local ambient temperatures might just be higher than before.

    EDIT: Yay, post 400.

I have followed this thread and others in the forums. Here are some thoughts:

*Dell shipped the unit next business day. Very good CS. I did not ask for this service.
*The notebook shipped with what I asked for.
*No Bloatware, except for Google Toolbar which was removed.
*No problems with display, a SEC. Yes, there is light leakage at the bottom.
*Some have reported that the screen is not bright enough. I have to lower it a little. Seems pretty bright to me.
*This is my first dual core 2 PC and its extremely fast! :)

Overall, I am impressed by the unit. Seems solidly built. The wifi catcher switch is a little lose but the hinges and latch are solid. Everything works! Now its time to put the unit thru its paces and see how performs.

I wonder why the Nvidia Quadro NVS140 in the D830 has Memory Speed of 400 MHz, while here it is stated it should have Memory Speed of 700 MHz ?

Anyone have any idea when a new driver will be out for the touchpad?

Mine acts weird. Out of the blue....mouse will stop responding and mouse pointer will lag very bad...track stick or w/e they call it works fine though. By lag I mean if I move my finger to the left the pointer wont go there smoothly..it will move a little stop then jump over 2inches then stop again.

With no drivers installed, just default XP drivers, I don't have this issue but I can't scroll or disable the tap to click feature.

    Any idea?

Hi all, have ordered a D830 with WSXGA+ screen, but the case is, that the sceen is not that crisp. Very dissapointed with that, the difference with my old Precision M60 WSXGA+ (3 years old) is huge (very crisp and sharp panel).

So the D830's screen is grainy/shimmed not sharp or crisp as I used to with my old M60.
    Am I ripped off here?

Still odd that the qualty is gone down this much over the years. Makes me want to put my M60's old panel in the D830 :-(

    Thanks in advance,
    relikwie.

    Good day all,

The last post here is November 7 and I'm wondering what's been up with d830 folks since then. I've just had an unfortunate experience with Lenovo and the ThinkPad of my dreams, so I'm back now thinking about the d830. I don't have a lot of choices since my screen prerequisites are 15.4" wsxga+ matte.

It's those pesky screens! Any consensus on improvement with the recent deliveries?

It must be your WSXGA screen. I would call up dell and complain. I have the WUXGA and my screen is VERY sharp and bright.
