    Hello all you d830 owners.

Mine arrived today, and I love it. A few concerns though, has anyone else noticed an odd noise with the hard drive. I am not talking about the normal reading sound, its more like a power down of the drive every so often (once a minute maybe?).

I have the 160 GB 7200 seagate. I was wondering if maybe its losing power or something? I have the T7700 and a Quadro NVS 140.

    Anybody???

Well not to hijack the d830 thread but I just discovered that the new t61p thinkpad has a 15.4 screen @ 1900X1200 resolution and the rest of the specs pound for pound match up with the d830 except that the t61p has the nVIDIA Quadro FX 570M 256 MB card which is a much better card than the 140m in the d830 and its also better even than the m4300 precision notebook.

The price seems to be right to $2299 cdn which is a couple hundred less than the d830 for bascially the same specs...except the card is so much better..

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh back on the fence I go LOL :D

    Cheers,
    Jeremy

Hahaha! I know, I almost sort of wish I had held out for that one. Oh well. Maybe next time. :p

Incidentally, I FINALLY managed to finish my THIRTY-EIGHT PAGE review... and e-mail it to Andrew as well! Gosh, who knew it could be so hard to do, between work, a band, and family? Hahaha! Hope they can post it soon - I'd love to hear your comments on it!

I have just received my D830. It rocks. It's cool, quiet. Fast, and all the important pieces work under linux so far.

I also have a seagate 160 7200 drive (ST9160823AS). So far after 3 days of used, I can barely tell you if it's on or not.

Hey Guys, FYI Dell released a new bios for the D830....A04.

My laptop shipped with A02 so I plan on updating it to the latest one. Maybe they will enable 800mhz "mode" for the ram.

    Well, I just updated it.

So far I don't see any difference. No 800mhz memory either :(

I updated to it a few days ago - unfortunately, the only discernible change for me was that the POST is now taking MUCH longer to complete - over half a minute! :(

I usually don't flash my BIOS until it's a really critical update... and from what you guys are saying, I'm glad I don't!
