From my experience it's a purely subjective thing. I've always used my Inspiron 500m at less than native resolution and I've never really found it to be blurry. On the other hand the first time my friend looked at that screen he immediately commented on how it was incredibly fuzzy because I wasn't using the native resolution.

It's the same case for my D830.

Really, the only time I noticed the difference is in the couple minutes after I change resolutions... then it all really seems the same. I wouldn't worry about it unless you're REALLY picky about these things.

I'm running windows xp, not vista. (I assume you are talking about the aero theme in vista?)

    Hello --

I bought the 1GB from Dell, just so I wouldn't have to dig around under the keyboard right away. I am adding another stick from Newegg. But I can't seem to find any information on dual-channel on this motherboard.

I don't want to lose it by not putting two new sticks in at the same time -- if it will make a big difference in read/write speed. Does anyone have a link to any information on dual-channel on the D830?

    Thanks!

I've been working with my D830 for a 10 days now. I am very pleased with the speed of the machine.
The T7700 CPU is very very fast, I got 6050 CPU points in PCMark05.
The hard drive is a Seagate Momentus 7200.2 which 160 GB version is number 1 in THG 2.5" tests - very fast indeed.
    The wireless works flawlessly.
The battery can do 3 to 4 hours, which I think is great for a 15.4" system.
The noise is quite low and the heat is something you can live with. I've already let a external floppy to hang by mistake on the lower usb on the right side and it didn't caused any damage.
I haven't yet tested extensivly the NVS 140M video, but I've played some STALKER on 1680x1050 and with disabled AA it's quite playable.
I've moved from Vista Ultimate to XP Pro with little or no problems.

The worst thing about this laptop is the screen. Heavy light leakage at the bottom, poor viewing angles and washed out colours. I've managed to enhance the colors and brightness with nvidia control panel, but it's not enought to satisfy me.

I will write to Dell Support these days to complain about the display. The problem is that I live in East Europe and the chance to get my voice heard is very small. So I can only say - Please guys who have problems with the D830 display, complain about it on dell's support.

One last thought about the display: I think the problem is not in the panel, the mobo, but in the electrical circuits that are transmitting signal to the panel, and I hope this can be fixed, because this is a great machine and I do not want to change it for this issue!!!

    My config:
    T7700 @ 2.4Ghz
    WSXGA+ 1680x1050 display
    2 GB DDR2 RAM
    1 GB Intel Turbo Memory
    120 GB 7200rpm HDD
    Nvidia NVS Quadro 140M
    Intel 4965AGN
    Dell 360 Bluetooth
    DVD+-RW
    9-cell battery
    Vista Ultimate (now XP Pro)

I have an 830 and found the lightbleed and horrible contrast unacceptable. I emailed customer support and was informed this meant a faulty screen. I sent it in and my WXGA LPLC screen was replaced with an SECS. the lightbleed is a little better, but still quite obvious and quite annoying. When I sent in the laptop I included a note informing the technician of:

    1. The lightbleed running the length of the bottom for more than an inch.

    2. The horrible contrast.

The sentence regarding the contrast was highlighted twice over in two different colors. The sentence regarding the lightbleed was unhighlighted supporting the explanation you received of this 'feature'. however I'd like to emphasize I have the WXGA screen.

On another note, my father has the D630 with what I believe was WSXGA and his black screens were BLACK. Perfect.... no lightbleed.... no contrast problems.

Quick question: I'm requesting my LCD to be replaced, but I have no idea which one to ask for. My primary complaints are the same as everyone's: poor contrast, poor brightness, and really bad light leakeage along the bottom and corners.

My 830 currently has the SEC - that's a Sanyo-Epson, if I remember one of these posts right. What are my options for replacement in the WUXGA market of panels?

Just for the record, KVR667D2S5/1G module works flawlessly in my D830. Nice machine, albeit a tad on the heavy side.

Oh and lest I forget, my WUXGA screen does have light bleed but so far it doesn't bother me much.
