    Heyho people!

So my motherboard just crashed on me and I need to get a replacement for it and would like to catch two flies with one hit and upgrade my cpu while I`m at it but the d820 motherboard doesn`t support the better newer ones and i feel the d820 computer i own is still perfect for my needs.

Therefore I was thinking if the d830 motherboard has the same fit as the prior since after some looking into it they look very much alike but it would kinda suck if it didn`t fit. So either if anyone knows or can help me tell from these pictures I found. Sry if linking to ebay might not be okay.

I think the bases of both machines are nearly identical save for a couple ports. If you replace both base and the motherboard, everything else should fit together fine. Can't totally guarantee it, but I'm fairly certain that'll work.

Sounds great thanks for your input! In worst case I guess I can just buy a new case they are not that expensive. There is one small difference though I did notice and that`s where there is 1 usb connection thing there is a s-video port instead it seems but i guess some small drilling might do the work since i don`t think it will be a perfect fit just there =)

You might want to consider whether to buy a mobo with Intel or nVidia graphics. Heatsinks for either are different, which one do you have?

Ah good thinking there, actually I bought one with the 256mb nvidia card yesterday plus a keyboard so hope it will fit with some luck same as I had before kinda so hopefully it`s alright, guess the intel one doesn`t even need cooling but didn`t consider the fitting at all before this thanks for that input!

Might as well take it here also i guess =) What`s the fastest cpu out there the motherboard supports, been looking all over the internet and cannot really find the answer, it supports core 2 duo? But havn`t found anywhere if it supports quad or not also if the fsb has to be 800 or if it can be 1033 or even 1333 for quad core. Anyone knows?

If you flash the D830 board BIOS to A08 or so, A14 to be sure, then it will support up to C2D T9500. It will also support T9300, T8300, T8100, T7**0 and lower. The processor must be 800FSB or lower.

Hmm alrite thanks =) So any 1033 won`t work then, it won`t just clock down to 800 by itself like some do? Also will this one work, only real difference i can see is the power consumption and the price is really tempting if it will work instead if you or anyone knows, will really appreciate the help. ;)
    Core 2 Duo E4700 SLALT (G0) 2600 MHz 2 MB 800 MT/s 13x 1.162 - 1.312 V 65 W LGA775

Only reason it might not is if the power supply or motherboard won`t be able to provide enough power or is this wrong?

    Edit: Or even this? http://cgi.ebay.com/Intel-Core-2-Ex...66:2|39:1|72:1234|240:1318|301:0|293:1|294:50

1066FSB ones most probably won't work correctly.
C2D E-series are desktop processors, these won't fit in the D830. I named the processors you would want.
X9000 could work, although I don't know whether the cooling can cope with it, as it is 44W TDP instead of the usual 35W.

Hmm can`t see the cooling not being enough for even 65W but I don`t know, so I wonder how the E desktop processors can`t fit as long as it`s the right socket they have to be the same size? Hmm interesting this
