I would suggest that you get one with the Intel GPU, as the Nvidia issue was never resolved. I agree with your assessment that you can get a barebones D630 under $100 and then max it out with the stuff you have.

Am considering getting a D630 off of Ebay.

Are ones listed as 'Integrated/On-Board Graphics' potentially the NVIDIA Quadro NVS 135M graphics chip?

Or is that a plug in chip?

If it says integrated graphics, it should not have the NVIDIA option. However, to be sure, I would ask the seller for a picture of the BIOS Device Info screen.

Hah, handy that this thread came up again in my User CP, saves me the trouble of having to look for it :p

I've got to figure out where to buy new rubber feet for my D630...i have to prop it up with a marker to keep the fan vent from being blocked by my desk.

    Questions:

    Answer:
Well, I'm trying to avoid a D630 purchase of a NVIDIA Quadro NVS 135M graphics chip. But perhaps I dont have to avoid it, rather test the machine with it in before the return window and if it checks out stout and hardy, then take out the graphics chip and have it run off the integrated graphics on the motherboard.

Some of the machines are listed as NVIDIA Quadro NVS 135M with GMA X3100.

So I am asking if a particular machine on Ebay is really fuzzy about what the graphics card/chip is and then it arrives at my house with a
NVIDIA Quadro NVS 135M, will I be able to pull out the chip and still have it run with integrated graphics on the motherboard. Or are there some motherboards that dont have the integrated graphics onboard?

No you won't be able to pull out just the Nvidia GPU and run integrated GPU as it won't have any. You would have to change the whole motherboard for that.

So it is better to look for a D630 that specifically says that it has Intel GPU

Just bought a d630 off of Ebay.
    @$130 bucks 2.2ghz , 80gb drive, 2gb ram

its was adertised as 'Graphics: Intel 855GMA 64MB (shared video memory) ,'
They had about 7 of these up for bid.
Emailed them and told them I hoped these didnt have the NVIDIA Quadro NVS 135M.

They emailed me back and said that if I bid/won on one they would send me one of the ones that didnt have the NVIDIA.
Their reply is a bit confusing, as I'd figure with all of them listing the Intel 855GMA that they all wouldnt have NVIDIA Quadro card.
    Very confusing.
But mission accomplished -No NVIDIA graphics card.

These d630's are going as a matter of rule, at a bit of a discount than similar d620's at Ebay.
I assume this would be because of its reputation because of the NVIDIA cards.

I got a refurb T9300, Intel, and I have a few questions I'm hoping you can help with

I've gotten a few BSOD's and I think it was related to the ALPs touchpad driver so I removed it. Anyone else have that issue? What driver # should I use? The other one that gave me issues was the Dell Security one.

Using Windows 7 32 bit and have 3 gigs of ram. 1 is under the keyboard, the other 2 on the bottom. I was thinking of going to 64 bit and and increase RAM. Is it worth it? I run 4 websites and write a lot so I usually have a lot of windows open plus word and excel.. Do I need it? I watched the video to remove keyboard and I can do that but I don't want to mess with any clips and stuff. Can I just move the kb over a little and access the RAM without removing any clips?

I also want a a better hard drive and was thinking of the Seagate Momentus XT 500 GB 2.5 Inch Solid State Hybrid Drive ST95005620AS. Is that a good choice?

I had failed the memory test with PC Doctor so I updated BIOS from A09 to A17 and now it passes all tests. Seems weird to me that it would fix it. Can someone explain why that worked?

I did not go to A18 because it said in the notes that there is no previous version and I did not want to mess anything up (I'm not super tech :) so is it OK to go to A18.

Am I using the right drivers? Can someone look over the list below? Does anyone have a link to the full set of drivers I should be using on win 7 32 bit. Here's what I have:
    Latitude D630 - Windows 7 32 bit (A)

    BIOS
    A17 (Should I got to A18)

    System Utilities
    Dell System Software R260745
(This one messed up my system too so I took it off - do I need it))

    Chipset
    Intel Chipset R153997

    Video
    Intel GM965

    Dell Touchpad/Pointing R231736 (took off)

    Audio
    Sigmatel R171788

    Network
    Dell Wireless 1390/1490 R295615

    UPEK R173506

    Application
    Dell Quickset R180762

    Thanks for the help.

I did a clean windows install and no more screen flickering or BSOD. I think I initially did not install drivers in the correct order the firs time and I also updated BIOS

    A18 BIOS Windows 7 32 bit

    So far no issues
