...Really, you can't install the new drivers for the GMA 965? They install fine for me... but I'm not using the default Vista install from Dell. I bought it with Basic because I already own a license for Business. Anyways, that's really weird that they don't install correctly.

The machine arrived right on time. Just five business days after ordering.

Initial impressions are very positive. Comparing it to a recently returned M1530, it's considerable faster. I know it makes no sense. Perhaps I got a bad XPS. But this machine boots faster, launches Office apps faster, and shuts down faster.

The screen is great. Very bright. I still prefer the non-glossy screens best.

Having a problem doing Windows login with the biometric reader. It says 'Invalid CLass String' before I even have a chance to swipe a finger. After that, the only way in is with a password. Dell has referred me to Wave and they are working on it. May be a bug trying to login in to a domain user account when not attached to a Domain Controller.

The only nit I have have is with the 'Touch Stick'. I've used these pointers for years with ThinkPads but have never had one that also had mouse click functionality. I need to apply much less pressure else I highlight everything on the screen. Also, no one at Dell can tell me what 'TouchCheck' is in the touchpad/pointer stick config is.

All in all, very pleased so far.

There is a way to turn off the 'touch stick', right? I'm still considering getting a d630 of my own so I'm researching for possible flaws on the system. I basically narrowed it down to latitudes or thinkpads. I know I will be annoyed with the touch stick. Hopefully, there is a way to turn it off

Both Latitudes and ThinkPads have touch sticks. If it bothers you, it can be turned off. I prefer navigation with the touch stick. But these new ones have click and double click function that takes some getting used to. You can't have a heavy finger with them, if you want to them to work right.

Question about the 9 cell battery on D630.

I know that it juts out the front, but does it affect the level of the laptop? I'm assuming the purpose of it jutting out the front is to have the laptop flat and not raised.

I don't have the 9-cell, but I understand that it's flat. (I can't really imagine it propping up the front of the laptop.)

However, that's definitely not the purpose of having it in front. Plenty of laptops have batteries jutting out the back without propping up any part of the laptop (although there are also some that do).

Correct. The XPS M1330 9-cell raises it up, but not the D630.
