i use my d630 for the typical web browsing and for tuning the ECM on my mustang, so im the car from time to time. i bought this used and noticed when i first bought it everything was fine... after a while i noticed the AC charger wouldnt charge the battery, it would run the computer but would show up as "plugged in, not charging", i found an "elcheapo" DC charger on ebay and bought it so i could use the computer in the car, when i plugged the DC charger in, i noticed it "plugged in, charging"... weired! so the ceapo DC charger actually charges the battery, but the dell AC charger wont charge... anyone know what i can do to fix this? thanks, mike

Take a look at the connector on the OEM charger. There should be a small pin in the center. If it has broken off, the system cannot identify the charger, so it won't charge.

okay, i see the pin... very tiny almost like a needle, its there recessed about halfway into the plug... should it be that far back in or should it be more flush (just thinking maybe its been shoved in or something)?

It should be recessed. Do you have another OEM AC adapter to try?

Also, go to the BIOS and look under Battery Info. What does it say for the AC adapter? It should say 65W or 90W.

i went back out ot the truck and looked (its plugged up to charge) and the DC charger has the pin in the same location (recessed)...

no other charger (might just have to buy one), ill bring it back in and check the BIOS...

ive got it up and running... please excuse my ignorance, but i couldnt find the BIOS...

When you turn on the system, press F2 when you see the blue DELL logo.

Test it with a known good adapter, and if it doesn't work, then you've got a motherboard issue.

does it HAVE to be an AC charger? remember it DOES charge from the DC (car) charger i have... i was guessing it wouldnt make a difference since the charger changes whatever the input power is to 19.5v DC no matter if input is 120 AC, or 12 DC... right?
