Will Vista seriously impede the performance of the D430 (c2d u7600 with 2gb)?
    Thanks

Those are good specs, and you should have absolutely no problem running Vista given that it's not completely bogged down by bloatware.

Sorry for lifting the thread but I have pretty much the same question and I'd like some more input before I go ahead and bye a used one.
Will it be slow, sluggish with Windows Vista? Anyone tried Windows 7 on it?

    Thanks in advance.

I'm writing this now on a D430 with 2GB RAM running Windows 7 Build 7000 - This machine runs Vista and Win7 quite well with the 2GB of RAM. I do have the 120GB version with the 5400RPM drive, which makes a HUGE difference over the base 60GB 4200 RPM drive.

I run Vista with the stock 4200RPM drive and it's pretty usable with 2GB of RAM. A SSD would make it fly though. I am considering an upgrade to a 32GB PATA/ZIP Mtron from RocketDisk.com

Mikeyharm - What kind of battery life are you getting out of your D430 with Windows 7?

I have the 9-cell batery which helps, but I'm getting around 4-hours of constant life, the same performance I was getting in Vista.

I just recently downgraded back to Vista Ultimate x86 SP2 (RC) and my battery life has not been noticably impacted.

i dont think d430 can run vista aero at all.
    i had a d420 with c2d 1.2 too.
xp pro is the best bet. vista home premium and ultimate will slow ur computer down to dial up speed.

I was looking at getting a small laptop and went with the E4200 instead. For a few bucks more at the Dell Outlet, it was worth it to me. Already bought a battery slice for it. Really looking forward to getting it and loading up Windows 7 x64.
