Having come from several Thinkpads, I am used to a feature in Lenovo's Power Manager that allows you to set custom battery charging thresholds. For example, you can set the battery to start charging at 80% and stop charging at 90%, to preserve battery longevity.

Do Dell Latitudes have a feature like this? If so, how can it be accessed? I tried to go into the BIOS by pressing F2 at startup, but didn't see anything.

As far as I know, there is definitely no stock Dell function/software that lets you do this. I don't know if there are any third-party solutions, though.

Some batteries have the controller for this, other don't. The larger battery for the Precisions has it, I can set it in the BIOS, but the smaller battery doesn't have that option unfortunately.

If the battery supports it, it should look like this in the BIOS:

Ah, thanks for the info. I know the standard 3-cell (30 Whr) battery on my E6320 does not support it, because the only 2 options I have are standard charge and expresscharge.

Do you know if any of the other battery options for the E6320 support custom charge thresholds? I was thinking maybe the "long-life" 58 Whr battery with the 3 year warranty might, but I don't know where to find whether it does or not.

Honestly, I don't know whether it supports custom thresholds, hopefully, users with it will chime in. You have more chances of the long life battery supporting it since it's the designation given to the 97 Whr Precision battery, but like I said, I don't have one to verify.

The E6540 has the options for this in the bios (I have the smaller 6 cell and it works) - you can also set it from an optional windows app

Could you please elaborate on what windows app lets you set the custom thresholds?

Is there a way to check the # of cycles a battery has on it? The battery manager app from Dell only says "excellent" condition, without saying how many cycles the battery has had.

The E6x30 and E6x40 series Latitudes posses such feature.

HWMonitor will give you a wear % if not a cycle count.
