For the second time, lets stay on topic and try to help the OP. Thank you.

    On topic...

It doesn't matter how much the M6400 is worth, you have to remember that the general prices of notebooks have dropped over the years and that the M6400 will be faster than your original notebook regardless the cost. As for the vista sticker thing. They all come with Vista sticker nowadays even if you are getting the XP down grade option. IF you don't like it, just take it off lol. From your description of the M6300 you received, it does look like you deserve another replacement.

I would advise you to not be overly picky with this one as you should feel lucky that dell are sending you a second replacement. ;)

With all due respect Johnny, I disagree he should feel lucky to be sent a 2nd replacement. For the amount of money paid and for a supposedly top-line brand that prides itself on customer service, IMO he should be sent an appropriate replacement without being made to feel like they've done him a favour. Yes these things happen with products sometimes, but the guy has received 2 duds and spent a lot of his personal time resolving this, so should actually be given a system upgrade to compensate for that.

Not meaning to be argumentative, just my take on it.

Perhaps I just picked my words wrong and it came out sounding alittle... argumentative on my side. :) Well considering that the M6300 is already an upgrade, it is some what fortunate that Dell is giving him a M6400 instead of another M6300.

Actually if you look at this chart:
    NotebookCheck Benchmarks

The 3600m is way above the 3500m while the 1600m is next gen and a hair slower. e.g. in 3DMark06, you have a drop in 300 from 3500m to 1600m, but a gain in 3,000 from 3500m to 3600m. You also gain the general purpose CUDA cores on the GPU, the 3500 was before those were developed. It's like going from a high-end geforce 6800 to a midrange geforce 7000-series - it's a different graphics core.

You might be able to tighten the screen, or have a tech tighten the screen, if you don't feel up to the long phone fight to get the M6400... And the performance could be CPU, or could even just be all the BS that Vista does in the background when it's first setting up. Try disabling the indexing service, it likes to index your entire hard drive including the Windows folder and your browser cache etc. etc. for days on end, and days on end again after a large software install or a windows update. Nasty little beast.

Also the Aero interface in Vista tends to slow things down a lot. If you have no particular need for 64bit, I would say "upgrading" to XP Pro might help your performance a lot, especially at 2gigs of RAM. (Vista is like the Soggies to your RAM's Cap'n Crunch.)

hey i want to say thank you for all the advice that was giving to me by you guys.. it worked, another thing that helped me, dell put me on hold for 20min before i talked to a rep so i complained about paying for gold service and receiving slow service. I told them how crappy the 6300 was and stuff. for the first time the rep was actually on my side, he told told the manager everythign that had happend to me and finally the manager apologized for sending me the wrong replacement. i bet the manager relized i was a business client too. so he probably didnt want to get fired for losing the account.

it was kinda funny how the manager relized i spent 3200 and the crap they sent me was worth 1600... the change of tune was nice.
why have notebook prices dropped soo much??

your quite lucky, I have a budy who had an m1710 and it took him nearly 4 weeks to get the replacement. first they told him the vid card was back ordered and he wouldnt get a newone till feb some time. when i heard that i called them for him and got the ball rolling, and a week later he had a m1730 in his hands.

The grim reality of Dell (of whom i am a supporter) is they dont care about most of us, they figure for every 1 unhappy customer they still have 9 happy ones buying something.

I'm lucky, I have had consistantly good luck with them though.

i was suppose to be sent a 6400. and now the tech rep who said he would do it, hasnt responded to any of my 3 emails.i wish they were looking after me but all dell wanted waz there replacement back. if i dont hear back from him today. I will call and speak to a general manager or someone higher on the food chain. i think dell is full of liars at this point.
