hey guys i just wanted to get some feedback from the people in the forum on my situation. i think dell is wrong in this situation in what they are doing to me, but if you guys think im beign selfish or dumb please let me know, thanx.

i bought a dell precision m90 back in november of 2007
    for just over 3k

    the specs
    Dell Precision M90, Intel Core2 Duo Processor T7200 (2.00GHz/667MHz/4MB)
17 Inch Wide Screen WUXGA LCD for Dell Precision M90
2 GB, DDR2-667 SDRAM, 2 DIMM for Dell Precision M90
NVIDIA Quadro FX 3500M 512MB OpenGL, Dell Precision M90
160GB Hard Drive 9.5MM 7200RPMfor Dell Precision M65/M90 Factory Install
WINDOWS XP PRO SP2, with MediaDell Precision Mobile,English Factory Install
Dell Wireless 350 Bluetooth Module for Dell Precision M90
    Dell Wireless 1490 (802.11a/g,54Mbps) Dual-band Mini-Card, Dell Precision M90

when i had recieved the m90 i had the screen replaced 3x for grainyness and the keyboard side of the chassie also was replaced because it was incredible loose and flimsy.

recently my quadro 3500 went bad and when i would turn it on i would enter the matrix basically. there were green lines all accross the dell loading screen, then it would crash.

i called dell and every rep i spoke to said that there are doing system exchanges now for everyone who had the defective nvida gpus. since nvida is no longer manufacturing them. so the rep said dell will ship u somin like or better. and each rep i spoke to said they will send out a m6400 soo im like okay great.
and this is wat i got.

    Dell Precision M6300, Intel Core 2 Duo T9300, 2.50GHz 800MHz, 6M L2 Cache, Dual Core
    Vista Premium Downgrade Relationship Notebook
    2.0GB, DDR2-667 SDRAM, 2 DIMM Dell Precision M4300
    NVIDIA QUADRO FX1600M
17 inch Wide Screen WUXGA LCD Dell Precision M6300

to be honest its feels like its been used before because the whole case is feels flimsy. i pick it up with the screen up at 90 degrees the screen falls back 3inches. there is a sticker that said windows vista on the chassis.
i turned it on and its slower then my m90 its already crashed once without installing anything, i launched ie and it crashed. the screen is also very very grainy. i went to the google site and the google banner was all jaggady not even smooth edged like it should be and my settings are on 1920 1200.

i called dells gold tech support and they told me all they can do is replace my graphic card to a 3600. they wouldnt even offer to exchange the system for a more sturder one.

the specs are a little bit better then my original m90 how ever it does in no way perform superior like it should.

i called dell again trying to get them to fix it and send me out a 6400 now, Its the least they can do since my labtop crashed in the middle of a business meeting. and iv been out of a labtop for over a week.

do u guys think im asking for too much? or what else can i do or say for them to fix this for me.?
    anything is appreciated

p.s. the new system is worth just at 2k only

No,I don't think you are asking too much:( apart from maybe wanting a 6400,especially as they are still selling new M6300's

Ring them again and get the persons name you speak to,ask to be put through to their supervisor, the reason I say get their name is so you can get the operator to put you through to that person's supervisor if they happen to hang up on you [happened to me before]

Just keep climbing the supervisor tree until you get some resolution.....always...always,get the persons name [and ext] before you say anything about what you're ringing for.

Sounds like you recieved a thrashed refurb as a replacement, which is unfortunate, but with hard times coming,I can see a lot more of this sort of thing happening in the future.

    Shoot high, aim low.

A (working) M6300 is a fair exchange for your M90 if it is configured similarly. Which the one they sent you was.

However, I am all for the consumer getting a one-up whenever they can, so shoot for the M6400. Be persistent. But be willing to accept the M6300 so long as they give you a model in good shape.

It's really all up to how long you want to be in this quagmire, because I believe if you fought long enough you'd probably get the M6400. But you'd suffer some serious downtime in your work, so you have to weigh the cost of your time and energy vs. what you're getting for it.

FX1600m is not an equal, let alone better replacement for the FX3500m.
Floppy screen is unacceptable......I hate wobbly screens.

@Pixilot....you have something more you would like to say??
You don't believe him or something?

If you're not happy, you got to call them. Are you sure they said the M6400? If so, pick them up on it.

    @Weegie
Lol...you tell him ;) Why does he bother to even respond to the thread, if there's any useless posts in here it's his.

I agree with OP. You should at least get a system that performs the same as what you had, don't settle for a downgrade

@OP, I don't think you're being selfish or dumb. Call Dell on the carpet for worthless products.

But spelling is always good. ;)

First off I want to say thank you to everyone that replied my thread. i really appreciate it.

    Weegie

Should i call them right now or should i wait untill after they install the updated graphic card on monday?
any advice on what else i should say to them?
oh yeah and i did speak to a supervizer, he said he couldnt guarentee 6400 and all he could do was change my graphic card. should i speak to different superviser?

    Pixelot

lol i know but its the internet spelling/grammer doesnt matter..

    Erwallie

haha, y are u amazed dell gave me a better model?do they not do that usually?
i did speak to superduperviser but im gonan call again and speak to a different one?
I hope they get my happy tooo, im soo bumbed out i have no labby anymore it really sucks. i had to postpone my meetigns and borrow my assistants macbook, the led screen was amazing, i liked it, if dell doesnt help me out, im buying a macbook pro.

    toaddodger
shoot high aim low, yeah i agree thats way to think sometimes but its hard...lol

yeah i agree it would have been a fair exchange if it all works properly. and it was a sturdy built.

yeah i will accept the 6300 as long as it works properly but, as of rite now, its basically junk.

you really think if i faught with dell long enough id get it? ive already lost a quite a bit of $$ in downtime but december is my toughest time of the year. if i get the 6400 it will last me longer too. and its sweet looking.
im actualyl not to worried about the $$ iv already pulled my stuff out of the stock market when it hit 9500, so i think ill survive untill feburary or march, if i dont,, thenn... hmmm idk..lol

    Weegie-
yeah then the stupid rep tried to get me to believe the 1600 is actually faster then the 3500, lol i told him he was wrong and he didnt care he kept on talking.rofl

    imojo-
yeah im gonna call them again rite now, i am 100% positive they all said m6400, yeah im gonna call them out on it rite now, i just hope they listen.

    weegie
thanx for standing up for me

    lptp-lvr
yeah exactly, i need to speak up stronger against those reps, everyone tells me im too nice on the phone. should i speak up like an hole?

    pixelot
yeah im gonna call them out on it, any tips on what i should say or how i should say it? so they actualy do wat i want them to do.

1nce again i wanna say thank you to everyone who responded with somethign usefull to the thread...lol and thank you pixelot for bringing some fire to the thread, this thread needed a lil bit of heat...lol no hard feelings;)

LOL. I know what you mean, but I always correct everyone anyways...it's a good habit to use good grammar on teh internetz, because lots of kids have started using IM abbreviations in their school papers. :twitcy:

Just nicely explain that you are not at all satisfied with the computer, list the problems with it, explain that it's unacceptable, especially when it's supposed to have good build quality. Keep calling.

    Thanks. I'm glad I didn't offend you...wasn't my intent. :)
