Isnt it enough that under the device manager, under processors, it shows 4 listings of the processor? Why else would there be 4?

And when you open the task manager, under "performance", it shows 4 different graphs showing "CPU Usage History".
If it wasnt a quad core, it would only show 2.

Though on my Dell 9100 which has a Pentium 4 processor, I dont know why it shows 2 graphs and not just 1............

Yes, it makes a difference. There are different flavors of quad core CPU's the same way there are different flavors of dual-core and single core CPU's (though no where near as many). Quad core CPU's are available with different virtual machine extensions, different power consumption levels, different L2 cache amounts, different clock speeds, different SSE extensions, etc. Sometimes one little change, like the 12MB of L2 cache in the QX9300, can make a huge performance difference in an identical CPU with only 6MB of L2 cache given the right application. Price from one to another can also be wildly different. Quad Core mobile CPU's currently range from around $500 to around $1200 - all will show 4 processors in task manager.

That said, after much time on the Intel web site and other sites I agree with the above that while the CPU is reporting incorrectly as a Q9300, the only CPU that is in a mobile package that comes close to the specs listed in CPU-Z is in fact the QX9300. While a bit disturbing, it does appear to be correct.

Because your 9100 has a CPU that supports Hyperthreading...

What do other QX9300 owners see if they run CPUID?

I'll let you know when mine arrives.

That is exactly what I asked - that keeps getting pulled - on the Dell forum. I have no idea but would REALLY get to get a consensus.

Here's a thought - could you not just open it up and see what it says ontop of the CPU?
