I ordered an E6400 earlier today and I got about 140 bucks off when I configured it over the phone.

Please elaborate, I assume you're talking about price matching? Someone told me to ask for a price match against a T500 (which ended up more expensive). What can I do with the T400?

Same as above, please elaborate for the rest of us?

Did you say anything specifically or was the rep just a nice person?

    Via EPP or Small Business?

All in all, I was getting a lot of discounts so I am not surprised my last discount was not quite as big as yours.

What was your final configuration and price? I might have to try this T400 trick myself, though I think my target unit might be too low-spec'ed to get anymore discounts :D

I got it through EPP and I didn't do anything special. All I did was simply make a config online then called them. The rep then just had me save my cart and then she looked at it read it back to me and gave me a lower price.

Well, I mentioned the 5% off coupon thingy...she said she would try to honor it and get approval from her manager. I gave her the Lenovo pricing, and told her to use that with her manager if he needed something more solid to give him.

Post ~4% off that was authorized, I pushed a little bit more. It did not get me much, but I did get next business day shipping for doing that.

I also got a 'take-it-or-leave-it' in a nice way, and it was definitely a good deal that was comparable to T400 pricing.

But after the 12% EPP, 4% DPA, and ~4% coupon trick, she told me there was no more room with which she could adjust any more pricing. So she gave me the next business day, instead of ground shipping.

She was definitely nice. She wasn't up for chit-chat or anything, more of a 'lets do this!' kind of person. But very nice.

If you did not do the 4% DPA off thing, that is DEFINITELY how you managed to get a slightly larger discount. Believe it or not, I think you might have gotten about the same amount off (percentage wise) as I did.

Yup, that's almost standard with Dell. It is, what Small Business said when I talked to them, what they call a "deal closer."

Compare the same size machine. The T400 is close to the E6400 in specs and size, and the T500 close to the E6500. Same applies to the precision models.

I'm not going to post that (yet), but I essentially got two or so upgrades and a final price that was $30 less than before. Plus free next day shipping. It is kind of mind boggling trying to quantify what was saved.

The order has been placed, but not yet finalized as I may yet ask for one or two small modifications to remove stuff I do not necessarily need or want.

my company is a Dell reseller and even we couldnt come close to the bang for the buck of the T400. The E series is just overpriced at the moment. I tried to get a price match with our Dell rep and he just flat out said they can't do it. My T400 is on order now.
