Can't install Intel Matrix ... drivers!

    IMSM is just a about a defacto standard subsystem on many systems, so trying to avoid it may not be practical.

    If you go to install the IMSM app and driver package, the leading small print claims components cannot be uninstalled... not sure what they mean by that... at least applies to drives in a RAID configuration.

    Well there's other reasons for it. If you want to use the eSATA/USB plug you'll have to at least set it to AHCI for it to work AFAIK.
    You don't need the software itself though but for now i can't find the drivers from the 8.8 version as a separate file, it's incorporated in the installer

    i've set the bios to AHCI. but for no RAID, doesn't seem like the driver/software is much use?

    Download the IMSM driver only from Dell and install it manually in Device Manager for the AHCI/SATA controller device. If that doesn't work, then you should probably get further assistance from Dell.

    Yep...what GK said....try installing the 8.7 driver from Dell first. Just get the driver package and manually load it throgh device manager. You can try the 8.8 after that
