maybe its a bomb that can be remote detonated by dell?

I get the random beep too. I'm running Ubuntu Linux, so it's probably not a problem with Windows.

 

Those with "beeps", by any chance running a Hitachi hard drive?

Perhaps a hugely silly question - are you running Thunderbird email client? That beeps the system speaker when new mail comes in.

It might not be that, but something like it? AV wanting an update? Or found a virus?

Other threads have suggested the Hard Disk may have found an error, so Tricks' concern seems valid.

I got a series of beeps after doing windows update. It just went nuts beeping.

Of course this was in a classroom. And I wasn't paying attention to the class anyway. But I sure got attention when my laptop just started beeping.

 

I have a Vostro 1000 running Windows XP SP3.

I occasionally hear this strange beep sound coming from the top right corner of the laptop. I have no idea if this is what is causing this. It happens 3-4 times a month.

 

Any update on this? It just happened again for the first time in a while, and I was reminded of this thread.
