Maybe when the i7 mobile becomes more popular. My hunch is that a refresh won't come about until early to mid next year.

Are notebooks due for a refresh ? Yes.

But this is entirely dependent on the availability of new hardware.

So . . . new AMD based notebooks should start appearing shortly, as should quad core Clarksfield (Intel) models.

But most Intel based notebooks won't see new models until Arrandale arrives in a couple months.

im thinking when the new quads are released there will be a whole new subsytem hopefully with better efficency and speed and newer tech , sata3 and usb 3 would be nice for a start but maybe a bit hopefull

as for the i7 comment , i think they would rather refine the process of the cure core2 lineup for maximum chips per wafer which benefits us in price(eventually) performance and power consumption

the i7 will be 2nd q of 2010 ish i reckon i cant remember the roadmaps maybe i should go research instead of speculate but its late an i cant get to sleep so what the hell :)

The first mobile i7s (performance/enthusiast CPUs) will be out in a few weeks. The rest of the line up including the mainstream i7s, i5s, and i3s, will be out in Q1 2010 (which is in a few months) and will be when the refresh will be. They use the same platform anyways, so upgrading won't be an issue, though this is different than the current Core 2s (which are NOT compatible). I highly doubt SATA/600 or USB3.0 will be implemented on these notebooks, but there is a chance (and I'd like to hope it makes it onto at least a few models)!

Dell are already testing the replacement for the M6400....entitled the M6500.
Have seen the specs yet but it can only be a I5 or I7 notebook. Nothing else out there that warrants an upgrade.

I'll wait for a more comprehensive review since this one seems to be lacking real life performance. While I'm not saying it isn't a good CPU, very few people will benefit with it's power (most users who buy this won't be able to tell it's actually faster), especially if they already have a relatively current system.
